SUMMARY

The Title III Project Tutor Coordinator is a grant-funded position responsible for the administration and management of the Title III tutoring program. Key responsibilities include overseeing the recruitment, training, scheduling, and supervision of peer tutors who provide academic support and tutoring services to eligible students.

 

The coordinator will collaborate closely with academic departments, student support services, and the Title III project director to ensure that the tutoring program effectively meets the needs of the target student population and aligns with the goals of the Title III grant. This role is critical in supporting the academic success and retention of target student populations through the delivery of comprehensive tutoring services.

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION

  • Tutor Recruitment and Training: Develop and implement processes for recruiting, training, and evaluating eight tutors.
  • Session Coordination: Schedule and coordinate peer tutoring sessions across academic subjects to ensure comprehensive support.
  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor tutor attendance and performance, aiming for to ensure high-quality tutoring services.
  • Data Analysis: Collect and analyze tutoring program data to assess impact and identify areas or metrics for improvement.
  • Collaboration with Faculty and Staff: Collaborate with faculty and staff to integrate tutoring services into course curricula and academic support initiatives.
  • Compliance and Reporting: Maintain compliance with Title III grant requirements and prepare reports on program activities and outcomes.
  • Leadership and Supervision: Provide leadership and supervision to peer tutors and work-study students, fostering a productive tutoring environment.
  • Budget Coordination: Coordinate with the Title III project director on budget management and grant reporting.
  • Student Support: Assist students in identifying, developing, and implementing learning strategies and study skills, promoting self-regulation to enhance academic success and progress toward graduation.
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including faculty, Student Accessibility and Support Services (SASS), Student Success and Retention, and the Title III Director, to enhance support services.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Perform additional responsibilities as needed to support program goals and initiatives.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • This position requires strong organizational, interpersonal, and data analysis skills to effectively manage the tutoring program and collaborate with stakeholders across the institution.
  • Knowledge of various teaching methods and instructional technologies to improve student learning.
  • Knowledge of Blackboard Ultra and/or other learning management systems.
  • Ability to determine students’ academic needs and implement a plan to provide necessary assistance. 
  • Ability to assess student learning. 
  • Proficient in a variety of computer and technology-related software programs and web-based technologies.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues for both internal and external parties regarding tutoring and academic services.
  • Growth mindset and strong interest in helping students grow academically.
  • Dedication to ongoing professional development through continuing education, attendance at professional conferences, webinars, and engagement with current literature to stay informed about emerging trends and best practices.
  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of individuals, including students, staff, and faculty, while understanding and appreciating the philosophy and mission of an urban, open-door, comprehensive community college.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master’s degree in Education, Educational Psychology, Instruction and Learning, Higher Education, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.​​
  • Minimum of three (3) years in a learning center within higher education.
  • Proven experience in coordinating, developing, planning, and monitoring all aspects of a tutoring program (specific examples preferred).
  • Demonstrated experience in recruiting, training, and evaluating tutors (include number of tutors, if applicable).
  • Experience in reviewing, evaluating, and selecting materials for tutoring and supplemental learning (specific types or numbers of materials preferred).

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working in a learning center in higher education.
  • One year of leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Experience in coordinating, developing, planning, and monitoring all aspects of a tutoring program.
  • Experience in recruiting, training, and evaluating tutors.
  • Experience in reviewing, evaluating, and assisting in selecting materials used in tutoring and supplemental learning.

WORK SCHEDULE

40 hours per week, during regular hours of Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm. Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours. This position is contingent upon continued funding from the Title III Grant from the Department of Education, which is scheduled to end on 09/30/2027.
