SUMMARY
The
EMS Lab Coordinator, working closely with the Director of Emergency Medical Education (EME) and faculty, is responsible for lab activities in the EME department. This individual supervises all lab assistants, manages lab equipment and records, supports faculty in planning and delivering lab activities, and ensures lab activities comply with State EMS regulations and accreditation standards. Additionally, this individual serves as the AHA Training Site Coordinator for KCKCC, overseeing the instructional requirements, compliance, and activities of all internal and external AHA instructors and courses.


POSITION DESCRIPTION

  • Orient Paramedic and EMT Lab Assistants to their role and function.
  • Coordinate and maintain resource materials as needed.
  • Coordinate with faculty to assist with student remediation and practice needs.
  • Coordinate labs for classroom, off-site, and testing situations.
  • Ensure safety and security practices are adhered to by lab assistants during lab sessions.
  • Manage equipment and supply inventory and maintenance.
  • Manage lab assistant scheduling, time entry, professional development, and evaluation.
  • Maintain databases including lab instructors, AHA instructors, equipment, and supplies.
  • Serve as a lab assistant or support for department classes as needed.
  • Serve as the AHA Training Site Coordinator, administering records maintenance, instructor training and evaluation, distribution of certification cards, managing invoices, and payment of services.
  • Serve as the Alternate Sponsoring Organization Coordinator for the Kansas Board of EMS for the state BLS Psychomotor Exam.
  • Work with the Director of EME in developing the annual department budgets.
  • Complete other relevant assignments as directed by the appropriate administrator.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of best practices and state regulations for EMS education.
  • Knowledge of current AHA guidelines, policies, and practices.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications, especially Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective time management and organization skills.
  • Professional written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to manage several projects with multiple deadlines simultaneously.
  • Ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships.
  • Ability to create, update, and manage multiple schedules.
  • Ability to manage, direct, and supervise lab assistants.
  • Ability to maintain equipment, acquire supplies, manage resources, and retain records as required for accreditation and compliance purposes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree.
  • Meet one of the following certification requirements:
    • Current certification as a Kansas EMT
    • Current certification in another state AND National Registry certification to be eligible for Kansas reciprocity.
  • Currently or able to attain AHA BLS certification.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree or higher.
  • National Registry EMT certification.
  • Kansas Paramedic certification.
  • Current or able to attain AHA BLS, ACLS, and PALS instructor certification.
  • Two (2) or more years working as an EMT or Paramedic.

WORK SCHEDULE
40 hours per week, during regular hours of Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (CT). Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours.
