SUMMARY
Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) is currently searching a full-time faculty member to provide high quality, learner-centered instruction for students enrolled in biology related coursework at any KCKCC location, including high schools, while supporting the institution’s mission, vision, and strategic plan. The instructor is primarily for anatomy, physiology, microbiology, and cell and molecular biology.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
  • Faculty duties include classroom instruction, assessment, curriculum development, professional inquiry/collaboration, committee work, and engaging with instructional technology
  • Prepare course syllabi addressing targeted student abilities, specific competencies, textbook requirements, grading/assessment methodology, course scheduling, and/or other items as required
  • Provide regular, timely reports to students of academic performance including current grades in course(s) taught
  • Teach in various delivery modes such as face-to-face, online, hybrid and/or blended formats during days, evenings, and weekends
  • Utilize multiple methods of instruction, assessment, and technology to engage students in 21st century literacy tasks with a focus on critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrate support for cross-curricula instruction and contextualization efforts with other courses and departments
  • Build positive relationships with students and all college stakeholders
  • Demonstrate a commitment to professional development and active engagement in current trends and research in teaching and learning
  • Demonstrate evidence of innovative and responsive teaching methodologies to increase student achievement and retention
  • Effectively teach course content and maintain grades in relevant systems including the Learning Management System
  • Be available to students outside the classroom to answer questions on course materials
  • Advise students on biology department degree programs
  • Select appropriate materials, texts, equipment, or software, maintain equipment, recommend new items for the program, and submit textbook requirements for each semester
  • Collaborate with college employees through participation in college committees
  • Participate in student recruitment, advising, and retention activities
  • Other duties as assigned by appropriate supervisor
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master’s degree in biology, a biology discipline, or a Master’s degree in a closely related area with 18 graduate credit hours in biology
  • Teaching experience with a diverse population
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 3-years teaching experience in an open enrollment, urban community college
  • Experience in learner-centered pedagogy
  • Experience with undergraduate research and/or industry experience in biology
  • Experience working with high school populations
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to arrive on time and be ready to teach course(s) during scheduled times
  • Ability to prepare curricular materials to convey learning objectives to students
  • Ability to effectively utilize the college’s Learning Management System for posting assignments, assessing students, performances, and grading
  • Ability to think critically and solve problems independently
  • Ability to be organized and work on multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to work with a diverse student, staff, and faculty population
