JOB CLASSIFICATION
Pay grade level: Grade 19
Compensation: $93,978 - $140,966. Compensation will be commensurate with education and experience.

SUMMARY
Reporting directly to the Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Dean of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences will be responsible for the leadership, growth and development, and sound management of the disciplines, faculty, staff, and students within the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences Division.


POSITION DESCRIPTION

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership for departments within the division.
  • Lead curriculum development, assessment, and accreditation efforts to ensure high-quality, innovative, and transfer-ready programs.
  • Ensure compliance with regional and programmatic accreditation standards.
  • Recruit, hire, supervise, and evaluate full-time and adjunct faculty, fostering a culture of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.
  • Evaluate all staff reporting directly to the position according to college policy.
  • Provide professional development opportunities and support faculty in pedagogical innovation, research, and grant opportunities.
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance student retention, persistence, and completion rates.
  • Collaborate with student services, academic advising, and other departments to support student academic success and career and transfer opportunities.
  • Develop and manage the division’s budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and alignment with institutional priorities.
  • Identify funding opportunities, including grants and partnerships, to support academic initiatives.
  • Oversee scheduling, enrollment management, and faculty workload assignments to optimize resources.
  • Represent the division on college-wide committees and collaborate with other academic deans and departments.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with four-year institutions, industry leaders, local high schools, and community organizations to enhance program offerings and career pathways.
  • Advocate for the role of the arts, humanities, and social sciences in a comprehensive community college curriculum.
  • Other related job duties as assigned by the Vice President of Academic Affairs.

  • Experience using logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a budget and work within the constraints of that budget.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in one of the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences disciplines or a related discipline represented in the division.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience working in institutions of higher education.
  • Classroom teaching experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Earned doctorate in one of the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences disciplines or a related discipline represented in the division.
  • Instructional experience in a community college setting.
  • Leadership experience in a community college setting.
  • Knowledge of and experience in accreditation processes.
  • Knowledge of and experience in assessment best practices.
  • Experience in grant writing and securing external funding.
  • Multilingual

WORK SCHEDULE
40 hours per week, during regular hours of Monday to Friday 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (CT). Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours.
