SUMMARY
This position partners with employees and leadership to support a collaborative and positive work environment. The role leads recruiting and staffing efforts by developing and implementing strategies to attract and engage qualified talent for the College. It also supports both day-to-day HR needs and longer-term workforce planning, while maintaining accurate employment records throughout the employee lifecycle at Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC).
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Recruitment Strategy & Workforce Planning
- Collaborate regularly with department managers to proactively identify current and future hiring needs.
- Identify and implement effective recruiting methods and strategies based on role requirements, industry standards, and organizational needs.
- Coordinate, assist, and/or facilitate the initiation of requisitions with hiring supervisors as needed.
- Source candidates through a variety of methods, including social media (e.g., LinkedIn), job boards, and employee referrals.
- Prepare recruitment materials and post positions to appropriate job boards.
- Attend and participate in job fairs and external recruiting events.
Job Design & Hiring Process Support
- Collaborate with hiring managers to develop accurate job descriptions and hiring criteria; conduct job shadows as needed for reclassification requests.
- Partner with hiring managers and HR staff during the offer process, including recommending salary ranges, incentives, start dates, and other key details.
HR Operations & Compliance
- Oversee E-Verify processes and ensure I-9 compliance for new hires.
- Ensure personnel and payroll-related data is accurate; identify, analyze, and resolve discrepancies.
- Update personnel records to reflect job data changes.
- Communicate pay rate changes for staff and faculty to Payroll, ensuring compliance with applicable state and federal guidelines and the Master Contract.
Data, Reporting & Administrative Support
- Assist the CHRO with HR analytics, including employee data, trends, and projections.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Communication & Reporting
- Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills, including experience writing and presenting reports.
Confidentiality & Judgment
- Proven ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion, sound judgment, and professionalism.
Organization & Work Management
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize effectively and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment with competing demands.
Technology & Systems
- Experience using applicant tracking systems (ATS) and other HR technologies.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and social media platforms used for recruiting.
Human Resources Knowledge & Compliance
- Working knowledge of human resources employment laws and regulations.
- Knowledge of laws and guidelines related to inclusion and non-discrimination in higher education, including Title IX, Title IV, Title VII, Clery Act, ADEA, ADA, and Section 504.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources (HR), Business Administration, or related field and one (1) year of Human Resources experience OR
- Associate's degree in a Human Resources-related field and four (4) years of applicable HR experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Human Resources certification (e.g., SPHR, PHR, SHRM-SCP, or SHRM-CP).
- Two (2) years of experience in recruitment or talent acquisition.
- One (1) year of experience using HR databases, Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), and/or Candidate Management Systems (CMS).
- Experience working in a college, university, or higher education environment.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking in more than one language; Spanish preferred.
WORK SCHEDULE
Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM. Must be able to work variable schedule/hours to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours on occasion. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, talk, hear, walk, and sit. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift items.
