SUMMARY
The Low Voltage Maintenance Specialist II is the primary point of contact for the installation, termination, and testing of low-voltage cable and wiring at all campus facilities. The role also involves responsibility for all electronic and mechanical systems related to locks, keys, and doors, handling collegewide Helpdesk tickets, Centennial Hall-related requests, and assisting the Maintenance Project Lead in maintenance, remodels, and general college operations.
 

POSITION DESCRIPTION
Low Voltage

    • Plan, Install, dress, and terminate Cat5/Cat6/Fiber at Information Services IDF/MDF racks or rooms, and test for signal strength at electronic equipment or communication device.
    • Follow CAD prints and building schematics to ensure proper low voltage network cabling installation.

Door Lock Systems and Key Management

    • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot physical lock systems (primarily Best, with knowledge of Schlage, Kwikset, etc.), including key-making, re-keying, and maintenance of cylinder and mortise locks.
    • Design and manage key projects for re-keying or new construction.
    • Manage and update the College’s key tracking database.
    • Manage and troubleshoot wireless ADA door push button openers at all locations.

Fire and Safety Systems

    • Maintain working knowledge of campus fire systems, including disabling/enabling alarm input devices.
    • Coordinate quarterly, semi-annual, and annual inspections of fire systems with fire alarm vendor.

Facility Operations, Preparation, and Documentation

    • Hang bulletin boards, whiteboards, and shelving using appropriate tools and equipment.
    • Move furniture and prepare campus facilities and residence halls.
    • Operate machinery and equipment typically used in school systems and residence halls.
    • Participate in "make ready" preparations for residence halls each semester.
    • Perform electronic recordkeeping related to preventative maintenance and repairs using. computerized maintenance management and service request systems; track and close assigned work orders.
    • Assist trades personnel in completing work orders, special projects, and addressing campus safety concerns.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of Campus Systems and Facilities:

    • Knowledge of campus buildings and grounds.
    • General understanding of fire, camera, and door access computer systems.
    • Ability to read blueprints and use CAD software.

Technical Skills and Equipment Use:

    • Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and equipment commonly found in large facilities.
    • Ability to pull various types of cabling, including Category 5 & 6 and fiber optic cable, and dress cables to Intermediate/Main Distribution Frame (IDF/MDF) racks, pull, terminate, and test for electronic equipment and communication devices across campus.
    • Experience with intermediate remodels, new construction, and large-scale residential maintenance.

Maintenance and Recordkeeping:

    • Ability to use the college CMMS system (Computerized Maintenance Management System) to complete work orders.
    • Ability to manage and maintain the campus key tracking database (Keystone).
    • Capability to perform routine preventive maintenance and ensure efficient use of computerized maintenance management systems for tracking and closing work orders.

Interpersonal and Communication Skills:

    • Strong interpersonal communication skills with the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels.
    • Ability to follow written and oral instructions and work independently.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in building maintenance or construction field.
  • Low voltage certificate or one year of experience as a low voltage technician.
  • Applicants must successfully pass a background check conducted by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI).
  • Valid driver’s license and a clear motor vehicle record.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Journeyman Low voltage license.
  • Locksmith certificate or license.
  • Associate degree in a related field.
  • Experience in designing a master key system.
  • Experience in access control systems, and video monitoring software.

WORKING CONDITIONS
In performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, talk, hear, walk, and sit. Occasionally, the employee may need to push or lift items. WORK SCHEDULE
40 hours per week, during regular hours of Monday – Friday, 6:00 am – 2:30 pm or 9:30am -6:00pm. Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours.
