SUMMARY
Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) is seeking a Mortuary Science Facilitator to provide high quality, learner-centered instruction to students enrolled in a Mortuary Science program at any KCKCC location while supporting the institution’s mission, vision, and strategic plan.

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION

  • Prepare course syllabi addressing targeted student abilities, specific competencies, textbook requirements, grading/assessment methodology, course scheduling, and/or other items as required.
  • Provide regular, timely reports to students of academic performance including current grades in courses taught.
  • Plan and implement learner-centered instruction in ways that maximize student learning in both the didactic and laboratory environments.
  • Utilize assessment techniques to monitor student progress and success as outlined in the department, division, and college assessment plans.
  • Adhere to KCKCC and ABFSE established deadlines for submitting reports and records related to student learning and student outcomes.
  • Maintain contemporary knowledge of subject matter taught through professional development activities and/or on-going work in the funeral industry when not required to be on campus.
  • Integrate available instructional technology to support student learning.
  • Advise and mentor students in collaboration with the coordinator and student success advisors.
  • Participate in the accreditation and approval processes for the Mortuary Science department.
  • Attend and participate in division meetings, department meetings, in-services, committees, and college- sponsored events.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the program, division, and institution by timely attendance and submission of required grade, attendance, assessment, and other reports to the administration.
  • Other related duties as assigned by appropriate administrator.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of Mortuary Science theory, practice, and trends.
  • Knowledge of current curricular content and education standards.
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory and methodologies.
  • Demonstrated teaching and educational facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrated embalming skills.
  • Ability to assess student performance and progress and to provide appropriate feedback.
  • Ability to promote higher-order thinking and problem-solving among educational participants.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree; must be able to earn a Master’s degree within five (5) years of initial full-time appointment in funeral service education
  • Graduate of an ABFSE accredited program
  • Current or eligible for Licensure to practice as a funeral director and embalmer in Kansas
  • Three (3) years full-time (or equivalent) Post Licensure experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Teaching experience in an ABFSE accredited program
  • Teaching experience in an open enrollment, urban community college
  • Experience with teaching on-line coursework using a Learning Management System such as Blackboard
  • Experience in learner-centered pedagogy

WORK SCHEDULE
Standard work hours are between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours.
