SUMMARY
The Full-Time Driver’s Education Instructor is also responsible for program support activities including student advising, curriculum development, scheduling coordination, recordkeeping, and maintaining compliance with state and college requirements.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
- Conduct classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction consistent with the Kansas (DMV) requirements and Kansas Department of Education (KSDE) standards to prepare new student drivers for successful licensure.
- Create an inclusive environment that is conducive to serving students while meeting the requirements of federal, state, and local mandates
- Track all aspects of each student's driver education training and related communications and report information to students, parents, and school management personnel.
- Maintain impeccable safety standards.
- Maintain efficient and effective operations of all areas under employee’s direction and control.
- Assist with curriculum updates, student registration support, reporting requirements, and program assessment activities.
- Maintain accurate student attendance, progress, testing, and certification records.
- Coordinate vehicle usage, inspection schedules, and reporting of maintenance concerns.
- Participate in departmental meetings, training, professional development, and college events as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned by the appropriate Administrator.

- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications, especially Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to manage several projects with multiple deadlines simultaneously.
- Ability to manage instructional schedules, maintain compliance documentation, and support program operations independently.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Driver's education teaching endorsement issued by the Kansas State Department of Education at the date of hire and maintain the certification throughout employment.
- Valid Driver’s License and no license suspensions, DUI, DWI or Chemical Test failures or similar citations within the past three (3) years.
- Successful annual background check with a physical from a doctor and an acceptable MVR background check with no more than three (3) moving violations within the last three (3) years and no suspended violations in the last three (3) years.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher.
- Kansas Teaching License.
- Three (3) or more years of teaching or instructional experience.
- Two (2) or more years of Driver’s Education instructional experience.
- Experience teaching at-risk youth.
- Previous successful professional experience in areas such as law enforcement, paramedic, firefighting, teaching, coaching, etc.

WORK SCHEDULE
- Employment Type: Full-time with hours scheduled based on departmental and program needs.
- Term Planning: Instructional schedules for Fall, Spring, and Summer terms are coordinated through the Adult and Continuing Education department.
- Flexibility Required: Requires a variable schedule to meet operational needs, which may include evening and weekend hours.
