Job Purpose

Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) is currently searching for Adjunct faculty to teach courses in the Chemistry department (CHEM). Our current need is for an adjunct to teach daytime chemistry at our main campus.  There may be additional sections to be taught at any location including night, online, or at area high schools.  This is a POOL position. Application materials for this adjunct position are accepted on an on-going basis due to increasing demand for courses in this subject area. As openings for adjunct faculty become available, candidates may be selected from this pool of applicants.

 

Position Description

  • Conduct all class sessions according to schedule
  • Provide instruction, activities, assignments, and assessments to adequately cover all Student Learning Objectives for the specific course(s) taught
  • Use teaching methods that emphasize application, cooperation and collaboration and engage students actively in their studies, encouraging them to become independent learners with higher-order thinking skills
  • Organize and explain content using methods which are appropriate to students with differing abilities, levels of preparation, and cultural experience
  • Assign and provide feedback for in- and out-of-class work; monitor student progress
  • Perform adequate assessment and analysis of assessment according to college requirements
  • Reflect on and evaluate the effectiveness of one's own pedagogy
  • Provide a laboratory schedule to the lab science manager at the start of the semester
  • Prepare solutions as needed to conduct and/or replenish lab materials used for individual labs
  • Preforms other duties as needed or assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of chemical and lab safety practices
  • Skill with utilization of general chemistry lab equipment (e.g., fume hoods, Bunsen Burners, etc.)
  • Ability to follow specific Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for chemical storage and waste disposal.
  • Ability to arrive on time and be ready to teach course during scheduled times.
  • Ability to prepare curricular materials to convey learning objectives to students.
  • Ability to effectively utilize Blackboard for posting assignments, assessing student performance, and grading.

Position Qualifications and/or Education


Minimum Qualifications and/or Education

  • Master’s degree in Chemistry or a Master’s degree in another area with 18 credit hours of graduate Chemistry coursework
  • Teaching experience with a diverse population

Preferred Qualifications and/or Education

  • Teaching experience in an open enrollment, urban community college
  • Experience with a Learning Management System such as Blackboard
  • Experience with chemistry electronic or virtual tools
  • Experience in learner-centered pedagogy
  • Experience with Assessment

Work Schedule

Must be able to work a variable schedule/hours to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours. Your appointment is contingent on sufficient enrollments, or on program and scheduling changes.
