Job Purpose
The Specialist II will share information about Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) through social media, website, local media, and other college publications. This position will be responsible for photography and videography related to athletic activities and student engagement at KCKCC. This position will provide support for Athletic sports information during half of their work time and for marketing initiatives related to promoting student engagement and event coverage at KCKCC for half of the time. This position has a secondary (dotted line) reporting relationship to the Athletics Director.

Position Description

  • Serve as the media liaison for all KCKCC athletics teams at a local, regional, and national level. Serve as a secondary media liaison for KCKCC, supporting the Public Information Manager.
  • Develop engaging video content for KCKCC, including student interviews, athletic profiles, college events, and other content.
  • Attend select KCKCC events, including student, college-wide and athletic events, to provide photography, videography, written content, social media posts, and other event support.
  • Oversee KCKCC Athletics website to ensure content and design is current, relevant, and engaging.
  • Develop and maintain athletic social media pages, assist with athletic team’s social media accounts, and assist with KCKCC social media.
  • Develop graphics to highlight athletic success, student athletes, and student events.
  • Assist with maintaining college and athletic branding.
  • Support the Marketing Department and Athletics with projects, events and other activities as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent writer with attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal communication and customer service skills.
  • Excellent photography, videography and editing skills.
  • Strong time management skills with an ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in managing social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Proficient in Associated Press (AP) Style.
  • Knowledge of PrestoSports website services.

Position Qualifications and/or Education

Minimum Qualifications and/or Education

  • Associate degree and two years of experience in sports information, website content, and social media content; OR Bachelor’s degree with one year of experience in sports information, website content, and social media content.
  • A portfolio of social media, news stories, and photography projects demonstrating experience in sports and public information

Preferred Qualifications and/or Education

  • Three (3) plus years of experience in sports information, website content and social media content.
  • One (1) year demonstrated videography and editing experience, including portfolio examples.

Work Schedule
40 hours per week. Flexible work schedule will be necessary to accommodate various athletic/college events. Requires evening and weekend hours.
