Job Purpose

The Career Services Coordinator guides KCKCC students and alumni in multiple areas related to career and life planning. He/she develops and delivers specialized educational presentations, programs, and services in the areas of assessment, career research, career decision-making, and job search strategies to meet individual needs of students and alumni.
 

Position Description

  • Provides career counseling to diverse students and alumni and facilitates group presentations and workshops on career interest and attainment
  • Creates, implements, and executes diverse, professional, and innovative learning experiences to enhance career development
  • Outreaches to employers in all majors/areas of student interest, encouraging employer participation in campus events
  • Maintains and expands job opportunities on the Student Job Board to create a rich menu of employment opportunities
  • Oversees communication with KCKCC students related to Career Services, such as websites, emails, and print material
  • Coordinates and facilitates workshops and works with students one-on-one on topics such as writing resumes and cover letters, interview skills, job search strategies, and networking and performs mock interviews
  • Partners with faculty and staff for class presentations and workshops during the BLUE Freshman Seminar: Bettering Life Utilizing Education courses to integrate a 2-year career plan on career readiness
  • Partners with Student Affairs to coordinate school-specific events and host career-related programs and panels, such as career fairs, to reinforce contacts for recruitment and placement
  • Assists with the development of creative initiatives for promoting and marketing the Career Services Programs to the KCKCC community to include a social media campaign and other highly used venues
  • In collaboration with the Financial Aid department and site supervisors, assists with Work-Study job sites and monitors the students’ timesheets
  • Oversees KCKCC student internship program, including placement of student interns, and monitors the students’ timesheets in coordination with site supervisors
  • Expands usage of career placement database and coordinates assessment data to include services and placement
  • Maintains data on student use of Career Services and creates regular and ad hoc reports
  • Works to stay abreast of employment and hiring trends
  • Ability to work with Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, and Teams)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with internal and external constituents
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Qualifications and/or Education


Minimum Qualifications and/or Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Minimum of three (3) years relevant experience related to career planning and employment services, including career counseling

Preferred Qualifications and/or Education

  • Master’s degree or higher in business, career services, communication, higher education, or related field
  • Understanding and use of educational practices in career counseling, the job market, recruiting and hiring procedures and ability to advise, motivate and coach students
  • Direct career counseling experience with traditional and non-traditional students
  • Knowledge of and leadership experience in supporting a culture of inclusion and diversity
  • Bilingual in Spanish

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, talk, hear, walk, and sit. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift items.

 

Work Schedule

Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours.
