SUMMARY
Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) is currently searching for full-time lab assistant specialist to provide high-quality, learner-centered lab assistance for students enrolled in the Automotive Collision Repair Technology program at any KCKCC location while supporting the institution’s mission, vision, and strategic plan. The Automotive Collision Repair Program offers entry-level and intermediate skills in several associated trades.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
- Collaborate with program instructors on daily lab activities, ensure labs are set up per faculty guidance and ensure students follow appropriate clean-up protocol daily.
- Remain accountable for the function, safety, and overall appearance of the assigned lab environment.
- Provide technical guidance in the performance of program specific tasks.
- Observe and document student performance of tasks assigned by the program instructors.
- Supervise students in classroom, lab setting, and off-site activities.
- Ensure safety practices are followed by students.
- Follow required pollution prevention procedures in the handling of chemicals and waste products.
- Maintain records of the orders for proper accountability of materials.
- Maintain control of college owned specialty tools, equipment, and resources for use by students.
- Ensure all program tools, equipment, resources, and other materials are in good working order following program maintenance processes.
- Maintain program inventory of all necessary resources, reporting to program personnel on any repairs, replacements, upgrades, or purchase of additional resources.
- Ensure prompt ordering of items in collaboration with faculty.
- Enforce all rules and regulations, per the college’s guidelines and other enforcement agencies that govern student practices of KCKCC
- Assist with organizing all aspects of assigned program projects, including good stakeholder relationships, meeting deadlines, and producing quality work.
- Occasionally provide demonstrations on proper instructional techniques.
- Transportation of students during field trips, customer jobs, and other activities per the college’s policies and guidelines.
- Support other technical programs on an “as-needed” basis.
- Participate in regular professional development.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Possess strong written and oral communication skills.
- Must demonstrate a commitment to and ability to work with a diverse student and faculty population.
- High energy, self-starter who can work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships and establish credibility with all levels of employee in the organization.
- Detail oriented.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications, especially Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to manage several projects with multiple deadlines simultaneously.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma and/or GED equivalent.
- Minimum of two (2) years of work experience in automotive or a closely related field.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate degree or higher in automotive technology or a closely related field.
- Three (3) years of experience in automotive technology or a closely related field.
- Training experience.
- Computer skills such as Microsoft Office Suite.
WORKING CONDITIONS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, talk, hear, walk, and sit. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift items.
WORK SCHEDULE
40 hours per week, during regular hours of Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm. Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours.
