Job Purpose

Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) is currently searching a full-time faculty member to provide high quality, learner-centered instruction for students enrolled in Construction Technology related coursework at Technical Education Center while supporting the institution’s mission, vision, and strategic plan. 
 

Position Description

  • Provide formal instruction utilizing student-centered teaching strategies and leadership in the construction technology program.
  • Specify, select, install, operate, and maintain necessary equipment and/or training modules required to support the specific course(s) being taught within departmental budget restraints.
  • Prepare course syllabi addressing targeted student abilities, specific competencies, textbook requirements, grading/assessment methodology, course scheduling, and/or other items as required.
  • Provide regular, timely reports to students of academic performance including current grades in course(s) taught.
  • Establish and/or help maintain an industry-based advisory board.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the program, division, and total institution by timely attendance and submission of required grade, attendance, or other miscellaneous reports to the administration.
  • Participate in marketing activities for the division and/or institution by interfacing with the college’s marketing team to provide supporting materials as required for the development of advertising promotions such as brochures, media spots, web pages, posters, etc.
  • Assist in student job placement and submit follow-up documentation.
  • Participate in professional development.
  • Assist in obtaining or maintaining accreditation for programs taught as assigned.
  • Successfully complete important assessment work.
  • Responsible for the transportation of students during field trips, community projects, or other program related activities, per the college’s policies and guidelines.
  • Other related duties as assigned by appropriate administrator.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of basic framing and exterior finishing of a residential home.
  • Knowledge of basic interior finishing including basic electrical and plumbing skills.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and learner.

                                                                                                                       

Position Qualifications and/or Education


Minimum Qualifications and/or Education

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent plus an industry related certification(s) and/or college level certification in Construction, Carpentry, or a closely related field. Upon hire certifications for this position will be required.
  • Five (5) years of related and verifiable experience in Construction Technology.
  • Experience with computer programs such as Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications and/or Education

  • Associate degree or higher in Construction Technology or a closely related field.
  • Teaching experience in an open enrollment, urban community college.
  • Experience with a Learning Management System such as Blackboard.
  • Experience in learner-centered pedagogy.
  • Have or qualify to obtain NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research) certification in applicable construction technology subject area.

 

Physical Requirements

Work involves the setup and operation of potentially hazardous equipment and machinery as well as the occasional lifting and moving of construction and manufacturing components and materials requiring the lifting of at least 50 lbs. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, talk, hear, walk, sit, and occasionally push or lift items. Work Schedule

Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours.
