SUMMARY
Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) is seeking a librarian to be responsible for managing the life cycle of electronic resources, including databases, e-books, streaming media, serials, etc. in order to maintain discoverability and accessibility. The successful candidate will provide leadership in the management and procurement of electronic resources, troubleshoot access problems, and promote awareness and use of electronic resources. The librarian collaborates with faculty to design, promote, teach, and assess information literacy across all programs at KCKCC.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
- Responsible for negotiation, licensing, setting up product trials, acquisition, implementation, and evaluation of electronic resources throughout the life cycle.
- Manages the administrative aspects of the integrated library system (ILS) including the management, planning, and implementation of new ILS related software.
- Catalogs electronic resources in the ILS.
- Works with a team to develop the library collection. This position is responsible for the acquisition of electronic resources that support student learning.
- Provides library instruction and research assistance both individually and for classes in face-to-face and online learning environments.
- Develops modules, tutorials, and workshops to support utilization of electronic resources.
- Oversee the web presence for the library and is invested in creating an exceptional user experience.
- Incorporates innovative technologies and practices into the KCKCC digital environment. Evaluates and recommends emerging technologies to support information literacy.
- Communicates with campus community and colleagues regarding electronic resources, trainings, updates, and service disruptions.
- Ensures copyright compliance for media materials. Often includes troubleshooting and collaboration with others to ensure access and technical support for electronic resources as well as authentication protocols, proxy configuration, customizing interfaces for electronic resources access and discovery.
- Maintains awareness of emerging trends pertaining to the life cycle of electronic resources.
- Actively participates in strategic planning to align departmental services with institutional mission.
- Consults with faculty and staff on co-curricular assessment and program planning activities in support of Library Services.
- Maintains statistics on the use of electronic resources and provides acquisitions reports on a regularly scheduled basis.
- Participates in campus committees, serves as a liaison to assigned academic divisions, and works on special projects, as appropriate.
- Helps during specific hours at the library’s help desk.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA)
- Must be able to work autonomously and collaboratively to support learners across three campus locations, in traditional, online, and blended environments.
- Must be able to learn new technology quickly, grasp the impact it has on information literacy and research, and be able to utilize for the advancement of the ever-evolving library environment.
- Experience working with Open Access and Open Educational Resources.
- Knowledgeable regarding copyright laws, fair use standards, intellectual property, privacy, license agreements, and web content accessibility guidelines.
- Committed to ongoing professional development, through continuing education, attendance at professional conferences, webinars, and literature to keep abreast of emerging trends, technology, and best practices in the field.
- Must possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to provide troubleshooting and problem resolution for internal and external parties regarding access to electronic resources.
- Customer service mindset that is flexible and adept at working in a rapidly changing environment that may be ambiguous and complex.
- Ability to work with a variety of individuals, including students, staff and faculty with an understanding and an appreciation for the philosophy and mission of an urban, open-door, comprehensive community college.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- MLS or MLIS at time of appointment from an ALA accredited institution. Consideration will be given for candidates currently completing a program of study.
- Experience working with electronic resources.
- Experience providing user training and/or instruction.
- Fluent with management of EZProxy and the OpenURL link resolver.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of best practices in instructional design, curriculum mapping, and assessment of student learning.
- Two to three (2-3) years professional experience in an academic library, post-secondary setting.
- Experience with Springshare products.
- Experience with Blackboard and/or other learning management systems.

WORK SCHEDULE
In alignment with the requirements of the Master Contract and to meet programmatic needs. Primarily during regular hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (CT). Must be able to work a variable schedule/hours to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours.
