Job Purpose

Through a combination of classroom and on the motorcycle range instruction, the Rider Coach will be responsible for teaching Riders’ Education classes. Rider Coaches teach students to operate bikes and instill safe riding practices. This is a continuous position. Application materials for this position are accepted on an on-going basis due to the increasing demand for courses in this subject area.
 

Position Description

  • Conduct classroom and on-the-range instruction consistent with the Kansas State Department of Education and Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) requirements and standards, to prepare and properly instruct rider education students.
  • Duties include recordkeeping for tracking all aspects of each student's rider education training and related communications and reporting to the continuing education department and lead instructor.
  • Additional duties require preparing AV equipment, distribute appropriate material and workbooks, and properly report accident, injury, and damages.
  • Performs professional services requiring excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills, completion of necessary paperwork, recordkeeping, and working directly with faculty, students, the public, and other school personnel.
  • Creates an environment that is conducive to serving students while meeting the requirements of federal, state, and local mandates.
  • Responsible for maintaining impeccable safety standards. Additional responsibilities include maintaining efficient and effective operations of all areas under his/her direction and control.
  • Performs varied and responsible duties requiring a familiarity with school operations, a thorough understanding of MSF regulations and the exercise of judgment and initiative in completing tasks.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Ability to work during evenings and on weekends, as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Position Qualifications and/or Education


Minimum Qualifications and/or Education

  • Current Motorcycle Safety Foundation – Rider Coach – Certificate.
  • Current and valid Motorcycle License.
  • Current and valid Driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications and/or Education

  • Previous teaching experience.
  • GED or High School Diploma.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as the ability to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.

 

Work Schedule

Friday 5:30 – 10:30 pm, Saturday and Sunday 7:30 am – 5:30 pm, 23 hours per week. You may not exceed 630 working hours in a calendar year. Rider Education season runs March to November with a mandatory training at the end of February each year. Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. Your appointment is contingent on enough enrollments, or on program and scheduling changes.
