SUMMARY
The Director of Equity, Inclusion, and Multicultural Engagement is responsible for leading and overseeing initiatives at Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) that foster an inclusive and equitable environment for students, faculty, and staff. This role provides strategic leadership, working closely with senior leadership and other departments to ensure inclusive practices are integrated across all aspects of the college. The Director will oversee the Equity and Inclusion Council and manage programs and policies that align with the college’s mission and strategic goals.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
- Strategic Leadership: Collaborate with various stakeholders to develop and implement strategies that promote inclusive practices across the college.
- Consultation: Advise the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) on equity-related priorities and policies.
- Data-Driven Decision Making: Conduct research, analyze data, and apply best practices to design and implement inclusive programs for students and staff.
- Metrics and Reporting: Develop and track metrics to assess the effectiveness of inclusion initiatives and provide annual progress reports to senior leadership.
- Program Management: Lead the development and execution of action plans to promote inclusion and multicultural engagement.
- Recruitment Collaboration: Work with HR to enhance recruitment and hiring strategies that attract a diverse workforce.
- Assessment Coordination: Partner with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness to carry out assessments, including climate surveys and other relevant evaluations.
- Training and Education: Design and deliver programs, workshops, and learning experiences focused on inclusion and multicultural engagement.
- Faculty and Staff Development: Provide training on creating inclusive environments in both the workplace and classroom.
- Expert Consultation: Serve as a subject matter expert on inclusion-related topics, collaborating with departments on training such as unconscious bias and inclusive leadership.
- Student Advocacy: Support students in navigating equity-related concerns, acting as a secondary advisor.
- Marketing Collaboration: Work with the Marketing Department to develop promotional materials and communications for the Center for Equity, Inclusion, and Multicultural Engagement (CEIM).
- Committee Leadership: Lead ad-hoc committees and working groups to achieve departmental goals and objectives.
- Title IX Support: Serve as Deputy Title IX Coordinator and assist with investigations in coordination with the Title IX Coordinator.
- Other Duties: Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Cultural Competence: Strong understanding of working with diverse populations, including cultural, racial, and socio-economic groups.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Program Development: Expertise in designing and delivering programs and training related to inclusion, equity, and multicultural engagement.
- Data Analysis: Ability to analyze data and use research to create strategies and measure the success of inclusion efforts.
- Project Management: Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
- Confidentiality: Proven ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters with professionalism and discretion.
- Legal Knowledge: Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations, including Title IX, Title IV, Title VII, Clery Act, ADEA, ADA, and Section 504.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in business management, organizational development, human resources, psychology, or a related field.
- A minimum of Three (3) years of experience in roles related to equity, inclusion, and multicultural engagement.
- At least Two (2) years of experience working in a higher education environment.
- At least One (1) year of supervisory experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in business management, organizational development, human resources, psychology, or a related field.
- Five (5) or more years of experience in roles related to equity, inclusion, and multicultural engagement.
- Experience in developing and implementing strategic plans focused on inclusion and multicultural engagement.
- Four (4) years of experience working in a higher education environment, preferably in an urban area.
- Multilingual fluency (oral and written) in English and other language(s) to meet the language needs of the community.
WORKING CONDITIONS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, talk, listen, walk, and sit. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift items.
WORK SCHEDULE
40 hours per week, during regular College hours of Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm. Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours for special events. This is an on-campus position.
