SUMMARY
Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) is currently searching an adjunct faculty member to provide high quality, learner-centered instruction for students enrolled in Reading coursework at any KCKCC location while supporting the institution’s mission, vision, and strategic plan. This is a POOL position. Application materials for this adjunct position accepted on an on-going basis due to increasing demand for courses in this subject area.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
- Teach developmental Reading classes.
- Conduct all class sessions according to schedule.
- Provide instruction, activities, assignments, and assessments to pair with the standard course shell that help students gain college-level reading skills, including comprehension and vocabulary.
- Meet all Student Learning Objectives for the specific course(s) taught.
- Provide written or verbal, individualized feedback for in- and out-of-class work and assign student grades; monitor student progress.
- Perform assessment practices and analysis of assessment according to college requirements.
- Ability to offer classes in various modalities including online, blended, and virtual.
- Reflect on and evaluate the effectiveness of one's own pedagogy.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Ability to work collegially.
- Organize and explain content using methods which are appropriate to students with differing abilities, levels of preparation, and cultural experience.
- Use teaching methods that emphasize application, cooperation and collaboration and engage students actively in their studies, encouraging them to become independent learners with higher order thinking skills.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in Reading, or a master’s degree in related discipline with eighteen (18) credit hours of Reading graduate coursework.
- Teaching experience with a diverse population.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Teaching experience in an open enrollment, urban community college.
- Experience in teaching reading skills to college students.
- Experience with a Learning Management System such as Blackboard.
- Experience in learner-centered pedagogy.

WORK SCHEDULE
Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours. Your appointment is contingent on sufficient enrollments, or on program and scheduling changes.
