*Downtown Campus refers to the Kansas City Kansas Community Education, Health and Wellness Center located in downtown Kansas City, Wyandotte County, Kansas, which was created to provide health, wellness, financial literacy, and education services.

SUMMARY

Responsible for staffing the one-stop student services area in the Downtown Campus while enhancing the delivery of prompt, professional, and courteous expertise. This work will include providing information on admissions, registration, financial aid, graduation, and other advising, while delivering exceptional customer service.   This position will supplement the college’s recruitment and retention efforts to reach target populations that traditionally struggle in the post-secondary environment. This individual may provide supportive encouragement through participation in structured activities, mentoring, campus programming, and leadership development while students are enrolled at KCKCC.


POSITION DESCRIPTION

  • Assess the needs of walk-in and electronic traffic to the Downtown Campus by answering questions and/or referring specific concerns to other professional staff in appropriate areas of enrollment management, student services, financial aid, or the registrar’s office.
  • Serves as the first point of contact to current and prospective students attending classes or planning to attend classes at the Downtown Campus.
  • Assist students in identifying and resolving educational barriers.
  • In conjunction with the Assistant Director and Director of Student Success, develop outreach strategies and/or program materials that will address the identified needs of students.
  • Assist students in creating individualized action plans and goals for success.
  • Create, develop, and implement strategies for student success as deemed appropriate.
  • Create, develop, and plan discussions utilizing social media and technology.
  • Guide and assist prospective and current students through the federal financial aid application process and collaborate as needed with staff in the Financial Aid office.
  • Partner with other KCKCC departments to host student-focused meetings and activities.
  • May assist in the work with area high schools by providing information central to the potential recruitment of students.
  • Ensures compliance with FERPA regulations when meeting with current or prospective students and their families and when making inquiries with staff and faculty to gather requested information.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to and ability to work with multi-cultural students and faculty population.
  • Have a clear knowledge of federal and institutional policies governing various higher education processes related to enrollment and financial aid.
  • High energy, self-starter who can work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships and establish credibility with all levels of employees in the organization.
  • Detail-oriented with ability to work independently.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications, Microsoft Office, Outlook, and social media.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to manage several projects with multiple deadlines simultaneously.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate’s degree.
  • Two (2) years of customer service experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience working with individuals from multi-cultural backgrounds.
  • Computer-savvy and able to quickly grasp new technology.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Three (3) years of experience in student advising, student affairs, financial aid, admissions, or a related higher education field.
  • Experience utilizing student information systems (SIS) and document imaging systems.
  • Bilingual – Spanish highly desired.

WORKING CONDITIONS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, talk, hear, walk, and sit. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift items.


WORK SCHEDULE
40 hours per week. Must be able to work a flexible schedule/hour to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours.
