Job Purpose
The Assistant Director of Athletics for Business Operations is responsible administering and coordinating the day-to-day business, fiscal, athletic medicine, and administrative functions for the Department of Athletics. 

The individual appreciates shared governance and working in a diverse environment and is enthusiastic about the success of student athletes. The Assistant Director is a member of the Department of Athletics leadership team to ensure that the KCKCC strategy for intercollegiate athletics aligns with the College's mission, vision, values, and strategic direction.


Position Description

  • Under the supervision of the Director, manages and executes the day-to-day duties of the Department of Athletics’ business operations including, purchase orders, payment requests, travel requests and payments, reconciliation of expenses, credit card reconciliations, vendor setup, service requests, and manages all employee/recruiting/onboarding paperwork.
  • Serves as the primary contact and point person for all office-related operations for office visitors, vendors, and staff. This includes but is not limited to managing all office and event supply orders, maintenance requests, and helps drive completion of key deliverables and follows up on outstanding items.
  • Manages and supervises the operation, compliance, and reporting for athletic programs which include revenue generating programs such as concessions management, athletic venue rentals, ticket/attendance auditing, event coordination, community service programs and special projects as needed.
  • Manages and supervises the operation, compliance, and reporting for athletic medicine programs and services aligned with the best practices for the holistic wellness of student athletes.
  • Serves as the administrative point of contact for Division of Institutional Image and Marketing for the coordination of the marketing, promotion, and sports information functions for the Department of Athletics ensuring for high-impact practices to engage all members of the KCKCC and greater community.
  • Assists with the management of the athletic budget. This includes monitoring, forecasting, reconciling, analysis and produces financial reports and serves as the liaison between the department and the Business Office.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of clear business policies and procedures for athletic administration, coaches, and staff aligned with College policies and procedures.
  • Authorizes and processes official vouchers for all sports and payment of game day employees.
  • Prepares and submits annual financial statements (Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act (EADA), Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC), and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) for approval by the Director of Athletics and other senior leaders.
  • Monitors and ensures that the department has effective systems of internal controls and ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Assists in departmental strategic objectives and action plans and provides input on capital expenditures.
  • Serve on assigned committees and represent the Director in meetings/events and oversee operations when needed.
  • Keep abreast of national trends by attending workshops and conferences, maintaining appropriate memberships, and other professional development opportunities.
  • As assigned, consult with national, regional, state, and local organizations promoting best practices in intercollegiate athletics.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics and the Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, aligned with college priorities and goals.

Position Qualifications and/or Education


Minimum Qualifications and/or Education

  • Bachelor's degree in business management, accounting, sports management, or related field.
  • Four (4) years of experience working as an intercollegiate athletic staff member, coach or graduate assistant, or related field in a postsecondary institutional setting.

Preferred Qualifications and/or Education

  • Master's degree in business administration, accounting, sport management, or related field.
  • Two (2) years of budget management experience in a postsecondary institutional setting.
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience in a postsecondary institutional setting.
  • Demonstrated experience working with student and community engagement strategies that support student persistence and success.
  • Experience working within a community or two-year college setting.
  • Experience within a higher education institution working with a student population with a highly diverse, first-generation, and financially fragile population.
  • Multilingual writing and speaking proficiency.

Work Schedule
Assigned 40-hour work week during Monday – Friday 8:00 A.M. - 6:00 P.M. Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours.
