Job Purpose

Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) is currently searching for a full-time faculty member to provide high-quality, learner-centered instruction for students enrolled in Automation Engineer Technology (AET) related coursework at any KCKCC location while supporting the institution’s mission, vision, and strategic plan. The AET Program offers entry-level and intermediate skills in several trades involving industrial maintenance as well as a program-specific certification.
 

Position Description

  • Provide formal instruction and leadership in the Automation Engineer Technology program using learner centered pedagogy. Ensure curriculum, resources, and materials are kept current with industry standards and practices.
  • Specify, select, operate, and maintain necessary equipment and/or training modules required to support the specific course(s) being taught within departmental budget constraints. Ensure program equipment stays current and on trend with the industry. 
  • Manage the departmental budget and utilize the e-purchasing system for purchase and procurement of programmatic items.
  • Maintain and update course syllabi addressing targeted student abilities, specific competencies, textbook requirements, grading/assessment methodology, course scheduling, and/or other items as required.  Ensure program syllabi is consistent among all program instructors. 
  • Prepare course lesson plans utilizing the approved program syllabi.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the program, division, and total institution by timely attendance and submission of required grade, attendance, or other miscellaneous reports to the administration.
  • Help to recruit and market the program to potential students. Participate in marketing activities for the division and/or institution by interfacing with the college’s Marketing department to provide supporting materials as required for the development of advertising promotions such as brochures, media spots, web pages, posters, etc.
  • Transportation of students during field trips, customer jobs, and other activities per the college’s policies and guidelines
  • Select textbooks and educational resources to support the program learning in collaboration with program faculty.
  • Complete all assessment activities including program review and documentation per the Office of Assessment’s guidelines. Coordinate with adjuncts to complete all assessment activities for the college.
  • Maintain an industry-based advisory board in support of college-level Automation Engineer Technology programs. The advisory board must meet a minimum of twice per year. 
  • Coordinate with all faculty to create year long program schedules for student coursework.
  • Assist in student job placement and follow-up.
  • Ensure students are following appropriate safety practices.
  • Participate in regular professional development.
  • Hold regular program meetings with program faculty and staff.
  • Serve on institutional committees as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of the latest industry technology and ability to integrate the technology into the program.
 

Position Qualifications and/or Education


Minimum Qualifications and/or Education

  • High School Degree with a minimum of six (6) years of experience, AND/OR College Certification with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience AND/OR military training/schooling in AET with five (5) years’ experience in Industrial Machine Maintenance, Automation Engineer Technology, Advanced Manufacturing, or a closely related trade.
  • Experience AND/OR Certificates in areas such as: Industrial Machine Maintenance, Advanced/Automated Manufacturing, Robotics, PLCs, Actuator and Sensor Systems, AC/DC Circuits, Industrial Fluid Power, Electrical Motor Controls, AUTO CAD, Lean Manufacturing Principles, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Industrial Systems Integration.
  • Five (5) years of work experience in industrial technology, advanced manufacturing, automation engineering, or a closely related area with an emphasis on several trade areas listed above.
  • Experience with troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and/or automated equipment for various processes.

Preferred Qualifications and/or Education

  • Associate degree or higher in Automation Engineer Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Advanced Manufacturing, or a closely related field.
  • Experience and/or skills in areas such as:
    1. Automation such as PLC, robotics, and VFD programming and troubleshooting.
    2. Pneumatics and hydraulics schematic design and troubleshooting.
    3. Mechanical skills such as fabrication, power tools, machinist applications and welding
  • Teaching/training experience
  • Computer skills such as CAD blueprint reading and creation, CMMS, and automation software
  • Six (6) years’ experience or more in Automation Engineer, Industrial Maintenance, Advanced Manufacturing, or closely related field(s).
  • Teaching experience in an open enrollment, urban community college.
  • Experience with a Learning Management System such as Blackboard.
  • Experience in learner-centered pedagogy.

 

Physical Requirements

Stand, walk, and bend over, reach overhead, grasp, push, pull and move, lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds to waist height. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, talk, hear, walk, sit, and occasionally push or lift items. Work Schedule

Work schedule will be Monday through Friday, hours may vary.  May require weekend hours on occasion and able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs.
