SUMMARY
The part-time librarian provides general and virtual information, research, and reference services. The librarian plans, teaches, and assesses information literacy instruction in collaboration with faculty and library staff in face-to-face and online environments.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
- Serves as a liaison to academic departments.
- Develops and locates content to support academic instruction and information literacy.
- Works with a team of librarians to develop the library collection.
- Provides library instruction and research assistance both individually and for classes in face-to-face and online learning environments.
- Explores, evaluates, and encourages deployment of emergent technologies into library programs and services.
- Actively participates in strategic planning to align departmental services with institutional mission.
- Consults with faculty and staff on co-curricular assessment and program planning activities in support of Library Services.
- Participates in campus committees, serves as a liaison to assigned academic divisions, and works on special projects, as appropriate.
- Provides assistance during specific hours at the library’s Research Desk.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- MLS or MLIS (or the equivalent) from an ALA accredited institution.
- Experience providing user training and/or instruction.
- Two to three years’ professional experience in an academic library, post-secondary setting preferred.
- The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of best practices in instructional design, curriculum mapping, and assessment of student learning.
- Experience with LibGuides, LibAnswers, LibCal, and LibChat.
- Fluent with management of EZProxy and the OpenURL link resolver.
- Experience with Blackboard and/or other learning management systems.
- Must be able to work autonomously and collaboratively to support learners across three campus locations, in traditional, online, and blended environments.
- Must be able to learn new technology quickly, grasp the impact it has on information literacy and research, and be able to utilize for the advancement of the ever-evolving library environment.
- Experience working with Open Access and Open Educational Resources.
- Knowledgeable regarding copyright laws, fair use standards, intellectual property, privacy, license agreements, and web content accessibility guidelines.
- Committed to ongoing professional development, through continuing education, attendance at professional conferences, webinars, and literature to keep abreast of emerging trends, technology, and best practices in the field.
- Must possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to provide troubleshooting and problem resolution for internal and external parties regarding access to electronic resources.
- Customer service mindset that is flexible and adept at working in a rapidly changing environment that may be ambiguous and complex.
- Ability to work with a variety of individuals, including students, staff and faculty with an understanding and an appreciation for the philosophy and mission of an urban, open-door, comprehensive community college.

WORK SCHEDULE
Up to 29 hours per week, including late afternoons and some evenings. Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours.
