SUMMARY
Youth Program Counselors will oversee and facilitate programming for the Youth Program during Summer 2026. Responsibilities include supporting weekly camp themes such as Arts and Culture, STEM, Sports, Nature, Career Exploration, and Technology. Counselors are responsible for maintaining a safe, inclusive, and orderly environment while adhering to the institution’s mission, vision, strategic plan, and program guidelines. Multiple positions available.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
- Supervise participants from multi-cultural backgrounds in all activities and programming.
- Plan and implement age-appropriate activities
- Facilitate the special events and/or field trips.
- Adhere to program standards and all risk management policies and procedures including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies.
- Attend staff meetings, training, and special events as outlined upon hire date.
- Maintain positive relations with youth, adults/guardians, and other staff members.
- Build team unity, spirit, identity, organization, and loyalty with the Youth Program Counselor staff.
- Follow all Youth Program Counselor policies and procedures including dress code.
- Promote Youth Program Counselor in the community.
- Other duties as assigned.
- CPR and First Aid Certified to be able to respond to minor injuries or illness.
- Health and safety knowledge to keep all camper participants safe.
- Excellent communication skills to convey program procedures.
- Leadership skills to guide and motivate camp participants while implementing camp programming.
- Interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with campers and community partners.
- Teamwork mentality to partner and work with other counselors and KCKCC employees.
- Critical thinking skills to adapt to changing environments.
- Creativity when finding solutions to challenges or programming.
- Patience working with children from multi-cultural backgrounds.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Required availability and commitment to work Monday through Thursday for the full program duration, from June 8, 2026, through July 24, 2026.
- Associate degree or higher in Child Development, Education, or a related field.
- Experience in teaching or youth programming.
- Previous experience in a summer day camp or residential camp setting.

WORK SCHEDULE
- Program dates: June 8-July 24, 2026 (Monday-Friday, first week only)
- Week 1 (June 8-12, 2026):
- Mandatory counselor training
- Monday through Friday schedule
- CPR and First Aid training provided during this week
- Weeks 2-7:
- Regular schedule of Monday through Thursday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM (CT)

- Friday, July 24, 2026
