SUMMARY
The purpose of this position is to primarily teach upper-level math courses and developmental math courses as needed. Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) is currently searching for a full-time faculty member to provide high quality, learner-centered instruction for students enrolled in Math related coursework at any KCKCC location, including area high schools, while supporting the institution’s mission, vision, and strategic plan.


POSITION DESCRIPTION

  • Demonstrate a commitment to professional development and active engagement in current trends and research in teaching and learning for community college students.
  • Keep abreast of trends in math education and math pathways.
  • Representing the college at professional conferences.
  • Participate in classroom instructional assessment and curriculum development.
  • Utilize multiple methods of instruction, assessment, and technology to engage students with a focus on critical thinking skills.
  • Participate in cross-curricula instruction and contextualization efforts with other courses and departments.
  • Utilize innovative and responsive teaching methodologies to increase student achievement and retention.
  • Provide instruction, activities, assignments, and assessments to adequately cover all student learning objectives for the specific courses taught.
  • Effectively teach course content and maintain class level assessment and grades in the college’s Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Be available to students outside the classroom to answer questions on course materials.
  • Select appropriate materials, texts, recommend new items for the program, and submit textbook requirements for each semester.
  • Collaborate with college employees through participation on campus committees.
  • Participate in student recruitment, advising, and retention activities.
  • Prepare course syllabi addressing targeted student abilities, specific competencies, textbook requirements, grading/assessment methodology, course scheduling, and/or other items as required.
  • Provide regular, timely reports to students of academic performance including current grades in course(s) taught.
  • Utilizes student-centered teaching strategies.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the program, division, and total institution by timely attendance and submission of required grade, attendance, or other miscellaneous reports to the administration.
  • Faculty duties include classroom instructions assessment, curriculum development, professional inquiry/collaboration, committee work, and engaging with instructional technology.
  • Other related duties assigned by the appropriate supervisor.

  • Demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary teaching and learning initiatives.
  • Understanding of and ability to effectively apply current methodology in developing curriculum.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with colleagues.
  • Demonstrated rapport with students having a record of academic challenges to motivate them toward success.
  • Strong computer and technology skills.
  • Teaching assignments may include various delivery modes such as face-to-face, online, hybrid and/or hyflex formats.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s or higher degree in Mathematics or Master’s degree in a related discipline with at least eighteen (18) credit hours of Mathematics or Mathematics Education graduate coursework.
  • Two (2) years of higher education teaching experience preferably at the community college level.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior work with math pathway models and related math corequisite strategies.
  • Teaching experience in an open enrollment, urban community college.
  • Experience with a Learning Management System such as Blackboard.
  • Experience in learner-centered pedagogy.

WORK SCHEDULE
In alignment with the requirements of the Master Contract and to meet programmatic needs. Primarily during regular hours of Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM (CT). Must be able to work a variable schedule/hours to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours.
