Job Purpose
The Student Health Center Nurse is responsible for providing direct nursing services and coordinating programs and services in the Student Health Center. The individual appreciates shared governance and working in a diverse environment. The Student Health Center Nurse works as part of the Student Services team to ensure that the
Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) strategy for student health and wellness aligns with the College's mission, vision, values, and strategic direction

Position Description

  • Under the supervision of KCKCC’s medical director, responsible for the direct delivery of health services to students. This includes, but is not limited to, first aid treatment, making appropriate referrals, providing tuberculin tests to the College community, tracking of required student immunizations, and maintenance of office supplies, equipment, and medications.
  • Under the supervision of the Dean of Student Services, develop and implement office policies, procedures, and data processing and technology that support influential student health programs and services in alignment with the strategic priorities and goals of the College.
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, and coordination of health and wellness programs consistent with strategic priorities of the College. This includes, but is not limited to, health and wellness programs that support student success, coordinating events such as immunization clinics, health fairs, and College blood drives.
  • Responsible for the effective monitoring and compliance of student health records and services consistent with state licensure requirements, appropriate state statutes, and established best practices for student health and wellness services.
  • Responsible for being a primary point of contact for students with extenuating medical conditions and serve as a liaison to address concerns with appropriate faculty and staff.
  • Keep abreast of national trends by attending workshops and conferences, maintaining appropriate memberships, and other professional development opportunities.
  • As assigned, participate in committees and workgroups related to the health and wellness of students, and relevant emergency planning for the College community.
  • As assigned, liaise with national, regional, state, and local organizations promoting best practices in student health and wellness services.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Dean of Student Services and the Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management aligned with College strategic priorities and goals.

  • Must demonstrate an understanding of the role of student health and wellness programs, services, and compliance at the community college level.

  • Fosters agency through developmental advising practices that encourage self-efficacy, self-determination, self-advocacy, and accountability.
  • Have a demonstrated in-depth knowledge of a diverse and broad range of student academic advising and retention programs, services, resources, and relevant guidelines to ensure student access to services.
  • The capacity to represent the College at local agencies/organizations activities and group meetings.
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to and ability to work with a diverse student, faculty, and staff population.
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to inclusive practices that promote social justice and equity.
  • High energy, initiative-taker who can work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships and establish credibility with all levels of students, faculty, and staff in the organization.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 applications.
  • Ability to manage several projects with multiple deadlines simultaneously.

Position Qualifications and/or Education


Minimum Qualifications and/or Education

  • Current Kansas Registered Nurse’s license.
  • Current CPR/AED certification based on American Heart Association or American Red Cross guidelines.
  • Two (2) years of experience providing direct nursing care.

Preferred Qualifications and/or Education

  • Demonstrated experience working with a college student population.
  • Demonstrated experience working with programs and services to address health disparities or stigma related to healthy practices.
  • Demonstrated experience working with a population of individuals consistent with a student population that is highly diverse, first-generation, and financially fragile.
  • Multilingual writing and speaking proficiency.

Work Schedule
Assigned 40-hour work week during Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM. Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours.
