Job Purpose

Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) is currently searching for a Lab Assistant who shall work with and assist the HVAC and Electrical Technology Instructors at the Pioneer Career Center in Leavenworth, KS.

Position Description

  • Work with all students in both programs to provide proper instruction and supervision in Electrical Technology and HVAC
  • Observe and document student performance of tasks assigned by instructors
  • Ensure safety practices are followed by students as outlined by both programs
  • Follow required pollution prevention procedures in the handling of chemicals and waste products
  • Maintain records of repair orders for proper accountability of parts and materials
  • Maintain control of college owned specialty tools for use by students
  • Enforce all rules and regulations, per the college’s guidelines and other enforcement agencies that govern student practices of KCKCC
  • Assist in the transportation of students during field trips, community events, and customer job sites per the College’s policies and guidelines
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the respective instructor

Position Qualifications and/or Education


Minimum Qualifications and/or Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years work experience as an Electrician with a background of utilizing the National Electric Code for electrical circuits and electrical circuit construction
  • Experience in residential, commercial and industrial wiring and troubleshooting
  • Minimum of 2 years work experience in HVAC/R applications and actual field experience in service, repair and installation of equipment
  • EPA certified “Universal”

Preferred Qualifications and/or Education

  • Associate degree or industry related certifications
  • Commercial and residential experience
  • Training and/or teaching experience
  • Other industry credentials

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, talk, hear, walk, sit, and occasionally push or lift items up to 50 lbs. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Work Schedule

Up to 29 hours per week, during regular hours of Monday – Friday 7:30 AM – 3:00 PM, must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours.
