Job Purpose

The Director of Athletics is the administrative head of all intercollegiate athletic activities at KCKCC. The Director of Athletics provides leadership in the ongoing recruitment and development of coaches and athletic teams through coordination, planning, evaluation, and implementation of programs. The Director works with other departments at KCKCC to optimize opportunities to recruit students; raise financial support for athletics and support college strategic plans and priorities related to student success and community engagement.
 

Position Description

 
  • Recruit, oversee, and work with the coaches and other athletic department staff in administering the KCKCC’s intercollegiate athletic program within the framework of the athletic policy as set forth by College policy and the rules and regulations of the National Journal College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC).
  • Oversee the managing of athletic budgets, sports schedules, home game management (including contracting officials and security, purchasing equipment, publicity programs, preparation of game facilities, the hosting of visiting teams), the procurement of athletic equipment, supplies, and training aids, and maintaining an Athletic Policy Handbook
  • Ensure regular collaboration between offices to support student-athlete needs, which include, but are not limited to, the Office of the Vice President of Academic Affairs, Student Success Center, Student Residential Life, and Office of the Dean of Student Services.
  • Work with the Office of the Registrar in handling all eligibility matters involving NJCAA and KJCCC requirements.
  • Maintain optimal athletic enrollment, working closely with the Office of Admissions and Student Financial Aid.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of a sound athletic marketing plan, coordinated through the institution’s marketing department, including the work of establishing and maintaining healthy public relations.
  • Work with the KCKCC Foundation to maximize opportunities and coordinate efforts to raise funds to support the athletic programs. This is to include the development of team-specific fundraising events, hosting events in KCKCC athletic facilities, and off-season camps.
  • Actively participate in the Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Leadership Team in the formation and implementation of student success strategic plans and priorities.
  • Work with the College’s Title IX officer to ensure compliance with Title IX regulations and requirements.
  • Work with coaches to ensure team members positively represent KCKCC on-campus and in the community.
  • Represent the College at local, regional, and national levels on matters relating to Intercollegiate Athletics.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management aligned with College and SAEM strategic priorities and goals.

  • Ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships and establish credibility with all levels of students, faculty, and staff in the organization and with community partners.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 applications.
  • Ability to manage several projects with multiple deadlines simultaneously.

Position Qualifications and/or Education


Minimum Qualifications and/or Education

  • Bachelor's degree in sports management or related field, and at least five (5) years of progressively responsible experience with related intercollegiate athletics processes outlined in the position description.
        ​​​​​​​OR 
  • Master’s degree in sports management or related field, and at least three (3) years of full-time progressively responsible experience with related intercollegiate athletics processes outlined in the position description.

Preferred Qualifications and/or Education

  • Demonstrated experience as a Director of Athletics at the intercollegiate level.
  • Demonstrated coaching and student recruiting experience at the intercollegiate level.
  • Working knowledge of Title IX compliance rules and regulations.
  • Experience collaborating within teams to effectively market and fund-raise at the intercollegiate level.
  • Experience at a community college.
  • Demonstrated record of coaching at the intercollegiate level.

Work Schedule

40 hours per week, typical regular hours of Monday – Friday, 8:00 am –5:00 pm. Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs in addition to evening and weekend hours.
