JOB PURPOSE:
To teach Geospatial Planning “Surveyor” courses at any Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) location.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administer mixed mode course (online plus on campus labs) using Blackboard Learning Management System.
  • Prepare weekly, or as required, content for students including posting of pre-recorded lecture videos and other material.
  • Assign readings in the textbook; create additional material as required to supplement the textbook
  • Assign general information which land surveyors in professional practice may be aware of to help raise awareness in students of prospective employer expectations
  • Design quizzes, homework assignments, examinations and quizzes as needed based on student abilities and responses.
  • Design and administer on-campus laboratory sessions (approximately 12) to be conducted on campus on four Saturday during the semester
  • Interface with administration and facilities to ensure that sites selected for laboratories are properly established to not interfere with other campus activities and that laboratories will not be interfered with by other campus activities
  • Establish a system of known control on campus in conjunction with and permission of facilities.
  • Communicate with student weekly via posts, forums and other online tools available through the LMS.
  • Communicate issues of the profession and hold discussions as may be pertinent, including issues that arise that are timely
  • Evaluate and assign semester grades
  • Coordinate with KSLS members and vendor organizations to arrange for availability of the proper needed equipment for each laboratory
  • Assist administration with acquiring simple hand tools for laboratories such as sledgehammers, and supplies such as lath, stakes and flagging.
  • Adopt State Tech system, or create, and then administer the system of remote lab, establishing a connection with remote lab mentors, and communicating with them as needed to create a functionally equivalent environment for students who are not able to attend on-campus labs.
  • Utilize student-centered teaching strategies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND/OR EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in surveying, engineering or related technical area.
  • Seven (7) years of professional practice performing boundary, construction, topographic and engineering surveys.
  • Professional registration as land surveyor or professional engineer.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clear motor vehicle record.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND/OR EDUCATION:

  • Master’s degree in surveying, geomatics or similar area.
  • Four (4) years of management experience above party chief level.
  • Four (4) years of experience teaching any subject (surveying preferred), including as graduate or undergraduate teaching assistant.


SALARY RANGE: Salary is commensurate with education and experience.


WORK SCHEDULE: Must be able to work a variable schedule/hours to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours. Your appointment is contingent on sufficient enrollments, or on program and scheduling changes.
