Job Purpose

This position is responsible for all aspects of the men’ basketball program, including practice preparation, player development, recruiting, scheduling, budgeting, fundraising, academic oversight, maintaining weekly office hours, and other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

 

Position Description

  • Provides leadership and supervision in all aspects of the program including, recruitment, retention, academic support, practice preparation, game strategy, alumnae development, fundraising, and community service
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive recruiting and retention of student athlete program
  • Ensure strict adherence to all National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), Region VI and Kansas Jayhawk (KJCCC) by-laws and regulations.
  • Develops an annual operating budget and oversee the purchasing, distribution and collection of all equipment
  • Ensure satisfactory academic performance of student-athletes.
  • Ensure the physical, emotional, and social welfare of student-athletes
  • Learn, understand, and adhere to all NJCAA, Region VI, and KJCCC guidelines and maintain up-to-date rosters, squad lists and other information, keeping compliance as a first priority
  • Assist with the supervision of the athletic facilities when used by outside groups as well as Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) groups
  • Works closely with Director of Athletics on long and short-term planning for the program
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Position Qualifications and/or Education

Minimum Qualifications and/or Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher
  • Minimum of two-four (2-4) years of head collegiate coaching experience OR 
  • Minimum of five (5) plus years as a college assistant-that includes recruiting student-athletes, marketing, scheduling, equipment budgeting/management, and facility care
  • Professional playing experience will be considered in lieu of employment experience

Preferred Qualifications and/or Education

  • Head Coaching at the junior college level
  • Assistant Coaching at the junior college level
  • Extensive recruiting experience
  • College Level or above playing experience
  • Familiar with Title IX

  • Visual ability sufficient to operate a motor vehicle to transport team members
  • Physical ability to train Men’s Basketball athletes

 

Work Schedule

Must be able to work a variable schedule/hours to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours.
