Job title: Academic Advisor- Health Profession (former title: LPN/Articulation/CNA Academic Advisor)

Reports to: Director of Practical Nursing / Dean of Health Professions

Supervises: Students

Position type: Full-time Faculty

FLSA Status: Exempt

Job Purpose: This faculty member is responsible for advising current and potential students interested in the LPN program, transitioning from LPN/Paramedic/RRT to RN, or completion of the CNA or CMA classes.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develop a caring relationship with advisees.
  2. Help students identify, develop, and monitor progress toward realistic educational/career plans.
  3. Assist students in planning an academic program consistent with their abilities and interests.
  4. Follow academic policies, procedures and requirements of the institution and program.
  5. Assist with approving designated educational transactions (e.g. schedule, drop/adds, withdrawals, change of major, waivers, graduation requirements).
  6. Maintain advising file for each advisee.
  7. Request assignment of advisee to another advisor if necessary.
  8. Assist advisees in identifying internship, further educational opportunities.
  9. Inform students of special services available to them for remediation, academic assistance and other needs.
  10. Refer students when academic, attitudinal, attendance or other personal problems that require intervention by other campus professionals.
  11. Participate in recruitment activities.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Practical Nursing or Dean of Health Professions.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  1. Good working knowledge of general computer skills, including Microsoft Office products
  2. Familiarity with nursing curriculum.
  3. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
  4. Self-motivated, high energy and ability to multi-task
  5. Ability to work effectively with a variety of people and cultures, including faculty, advising, staff, administrators, and community groups.
  6. Knowledge of local education and career options.
  7. Willingness to maintain a flexible schedule

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  1. Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  2. Degree in Nursing preferred.
  3. Minimum of two (2) calendar years full-time employment or the equivalent in a post-secondary education program; experience in an advising capacity preferred.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Education must meet the requirements as mandated by the Higher Learning Commission, North Central Accreditation Agency for the appropriate field of study and degrees awarded at this institution. Each department displays the specific requirements for each position. Participation in integrated, interdisciplinary teaching and learning initiatives is required
