Job Purpose

To assist students in getting situated to life in student housing and to enhance their on-campus experience. Resident Assistant (RA) also assist fellow residents with personal and educational matters while fostering a sense of community with all residents. They are the primary connection between students and the Student Housing staff. This single posting will be used to fill four (4) positions.

 

Position Description

  • Reports to the Housing Specialist
  • Responds to resident needs within and throughout Student Housing
  • Share the overall responsibility for the entire Complex on a rotating schedule with other RAs
  • Assist with move in and move out process
  • Encourage the social and academic success of all residents through planned programs and activities
  • Provide support and assistance to residents by responding appropriately to all crisis and emergency situations and conducting necessary follow-ups
  • Assist residents, visitors, parents and staff regarding Student Housing policies and procedures
  • Report both routine and emergency maintenance requests to the Student Housing staff
  • Enforce all policies regarding acceptable resident behavior in compliance with the KCKCC Student Code of Conduct and Student Housing Contract and Handbook
  • Be highly visible and have frequent/ongoing contact with assigned residents
  • Demonstrate leadership skills in dealing with both crisis and non-crisis situations
  • Maintain ongoing communication with the Housing Specialist and Supervisor of Student Housing regarding all community development activities, facilities concerns, as well as resident behavior issues
  • Serve as a representative of the College when interacting with student parents, relatives and visitors.
  • Attend mandatory trainings and orientations
  • Conduct health and safety checks
  • Other duties as assigned by Housing Specialist I and or Housing Supervisor

Position Qualifications and/or Education

Minimum Qualifications and/or Education

  • RAs must be enrolled in 12 or more credit hours for the semester
  • RAs must have a minimum 2.0 grade point average (GPA) for returning students and a 2.5 or equivalent for students new to college
  • RAs may not have more than 2 judicial/conduct points

Preferred Qualifications and/or Education

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Previous RA experience and or live-in housing experience

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, talk, hear, walk, sit, and occasionally push or lift items up to 50lbs. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

 

Work Schedule

Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours. Resident Assistant hours will be approximately a total of 18 hours per week, not to exceed 20 hours per week. Work hours may not interfere with class schedule.

 

Job Classification

Pay grade level: N/A

Compensation: Housing accommodation in the Student Housing Complex, including all utilities and parking at an approximate value at $3570.00. Based on room availability, Resident Assistants may be required to have a roommate. Resident Assistants are also paid a stipend of $200 per pay period for a total of $400 a month.
