Department: Biology

Job title: Biology Faculty

Reports to: Business Department Coordinator, Dean of Math Science Business and Technology Dean Curtis V. Smith, Ph.D. and Vice President of Academic Affairs.

Position type: full time position

FLSA Status:

Job Purpose: instructor primarily for anatomy, physiology, microbiology, and cell and molecular biology.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Effectively teach course content and maintain grades on Blackboard
  • Be available to students outside the classroom to answer questions on course materials.
  • Advise students effectively on Biology Department degree programs
  • Be a contributing member so the Biology Department team
  • Maintain professional development, through webinar participation, conference attendance etc.
  • Develop curriculum including course descriptions, objectives, content, and semesters calendars in collaboration with Biology department faulty
  • Select appropriate materials, texts, equipment on software: maintain equipment, recommend new items for the program, and submit textbook requirements for each semester
  • Evaluate student progress as related to learning objectives and complete reporting requirements
  • Maintain appropriate student and program records
  • Work with biology lab coordinator to plan experiments in course labs
  • Participate in biology department meetings, division meetings, and other required meetings
  • Collaborate with college employees through participation on campus committees
  • Participate in student recruitment, advising, and retention activities
  • Other duties as assigned by the Dean

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with computer applications
  • Able to teach classes at the KCKCC Main Campus, Pioneer Center in Leavenworth, High Schools, or U.S. Military Penitentiary.
  • Must be able to articulate an understanding of, and an appreciation for an urban, comprehensive, and open-door community college.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Master Degree and 18 graduate hours in biology required
  • industry experience preferred
  • community college teaching experience preferred
  • Campus, online, and or blended classes teaching experience preferred

SALARY: Compensated according to Faculty Master Contract
