Job Purpose

Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) is currently searching for a food prep assistant who will perform routine, repetitive tasks, under the direction of bookstore management. Be able to function in a fast-paced environment as part of a team, prepare assigned food, and perform cashiering duties during the sale of food items to students, staff, and faculty. Continuously maintain work/serving areas in a clean, safe, sanitary condition related to handling and serving food. Must be able to follow instructions and be willing to improve on the job.  This single posting will be used to multiple positions. 

Position Description

  • Assist with preparation of daily breakfast, lunch and designated special functions.
  • Practice Serve Safe standards at all times
  • Dress professionally at all times
  • Provide excellent customer service to students, staff, and faculty
  • Knowledge in bakery, meat and vegetable cookery, breakfast and desserts, preparation techniques, presentation methods, and quality standards
  • Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies
  • Manage computerized cash registers by taking payments and processing credit card payments
  • Learn and follow current health and sanitation requirements for preparing and serving food
  • Maintain a clean, orderly and safe kitchen by washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, taking out trash etc.
  • Capability of staying positive under pressure, using tact, patience and showing courtesy to all customers
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with a diverse group of students, staff, faculty and community
  • Basic math skills including measurements and recipe conversions
  • Operate and clean automatic dishwasher
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Position Qualifications and/or Education


Minimum Qualifications and/or Education

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent with 6 months of food service experience
  • One (1) year of customer service experience
  • One (1) year cashiering experience

Preferred Qualifications and/or Education

  • One- Two (1-2) years' experience in a food service/food handling environment, e.g. fast food chain, restaurant, or cafeteria setting
  • Serve-Safe or Food Handlers Health Care
  • Possess food preparation fundamentals

Physical Requirements

Work Schedule

29.0 hours per week, during regular hours of Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM. Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours.
