Job Purpose

The Kids on Campus Counselors will oversee the programming for the Kids on Campus (KOC) program. This includes subjects in the weekly camp themes: Arts and Culture, STEM, Construction and Multicultural, Sports, Environmental/Animal Health/Ag/Horticulture, and Career Technology, etc. Counselors are responsible for maintaining a safe and orderly environment and complying with the institution’s mission, vision, strategic plan, and camp guidelines. This single posting will be used to fill multiple positions.
 

Position Description

  • Supervise participants in all activities and programming from diverse backgrounds
  • Plan and implement age-appropriate programming activities
  • Facilitate the special events/and or field trips
  • Adhere to program standards and all risk management policies and procedures including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies
  • Attend staff meetings, training, and special events as outlined upon hire date
  • Maintains positive relations with youth, adults/guardians, and other staff members
  • Build team unity, spirit, identity, organization, and loyalty with the Kids on Campus staff
  • Ability to adapt to changing needs and circumstances, including strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Follow all Kids on Campus policies and procedures including dress code
  • Promote Kids on Campus in the community
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • First Aid and CPR Training to be able to respond to minor injuries or illness
  • Health and safety knowledge to keep all campers safe
  • Excellent communication skills to convey camp procedures
  • Leadership skills to guide and motivate campers while implementing camp programming
  • Interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with campers and community partners
  • Teamwork mentality to partner and work with other camp counselors
  • Critical thinking skills to adapt to changing environments
  • Creativity when finding solutions to challenges or programming
  • Patience working with campers from a diverse community

Position Qualifications and/or Education


Minimum Qualifications and/or Education

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must be able to work June 6, 2022 – July 29, 2022
  • CPR and First Aid Certified – A valid certificate must be obtained by the first day of programming on June 13, 2022, If Applicable, CPR and First Aid Training will be offered during Kids on Campus Training the week of June 6, 2022

Preferred Qualifications and/or Education

  • Associate degree or higher in Child Development or Education
  • Teaching experience or Youth Programing expertise
  • Summer Day or Resident Camp experience

Work Schedule

Kids on Campus work is schedule from June 20 through August 4, 2022, with mandatory training June 20 to June 30, 2022, and camp programming from July 11 through August 4, 2022. An optional additional week of work will be offered from August 8 to August 11, 2022, to assist in the closing of camp. No camp or work will be offered July 4 through July 8, 2022. The weekly work schedule includes Monday through Thursday from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm with a mandatory Monday meeting at 8:00 am from July 11 through August 1, 2022. Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs.
