Reports to: Executive Director of the Entrepreneurship & Workforce Center

Position type: Full-Time

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Job Purpose: the Business Coach shall be responsible for working with clients of the Entrepreneurial Innovation Center (EIC), students, community members, inventors, and entrepreneurs, to help with overall business development and strategy, and to develop business strategies and mitigate risks around the commercialization of new products, services and/or processes

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coach entrepreneurs through launching new businesses and growing or diversifying mature businesses.
  • Consult on topics such as exporting, product development, raising capital and federal contracting.
  • Facilitate sessions to help entrepreneurs develop appropriate business models, business plans, and financial projections, cash flow models, marketing plans, loan packaging, core processes and customer relationships.
  • Be familiar with manufacturing processes.
  • Conduct market research and competitive analysis.
  • Work with nascent entrepreneurs and small to medium-sized businesses, assess their needs, and propose and deliver solutions to enhance and expand their businesses.
  • Keep up-to-date with current entrepreneurial trends, market opportunities and skills training.
  • Collaborate with the Small Business Development Center, chambers of commerce, local economic development agencies, and lenders.
  • Build and maintain close professional relationships with small businesses throughout the colleges services area and surrounding areas.
  • Identify market opportunities and assist in the development of business strategies.
  • Develop new services based on demonstrated client need.
  • Maintain a current database on all clients
  • Retrieve, interpret, and report relevant performance data and metrics
  • And other duties as assigned by supervisor.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Must display an understanding of the community college “open-door” philosophy.
  • Must possess strong communication, organizational skills, and familiarity with computer software programs.
  • Must be able to work well with diverse groups with varying personalities, abilities and capabilities, both on the telephone and in person.
  • Must display the ability to maintain confidentiality of all matters and information in accordance with ADA and FERPA.
  • Must have good organizational skills; be able to prioritize projects and operate under the pressure of deadlines.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision and initiate and work on projects independently.
  • Must possess a pleasant telephone demeanor and have strong customer service skills.
  • Must be able to travel to all campus locations as needed.
  • Ability to establish and enhance supportive relationships with students, organizations, and associations.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field, master’s preferred.
  • Five (5) years of experience in key aspects of business development, such as owning a business, marketing, banking/finance, community relations, or economic development and research
  • Two (2) years minimum of relevant coaching experience
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience as entrepreneurs, in small start-up settings, or with experience advising new businesses through the startup process
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Must possess strong problem-solving and innovative thinking strategies

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate would possess an industry recognized performance coaching certification (International Coaching Federation, International Association of Coaching, etc.),

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as the ability to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.

  1. Visual ability sufficient to perform computer, scanning and linking functions and identify students against their student identification card.
  2. Must be able to sit for long periods of time operating at computer.


SALARY:                 $45,000-$49,500
