Job Purpose

The Director of Institutional Equity & Inclusion provides guidance to the President, senior leadership, directors and managers on all matters regarding equity, inclusion and diversity across the College. The Director of Institutional Equity & Inclusion has ownership of broad strategic responsibilities and leads the College in its goal to infuse the appreciation of diversity of all kinds into its curricula, processes and campus culture. The Director of Institutional Equity & Inclusion serves as primary advisor on the research, development and modification of diversity, equity and inclusion programs that support College objectives, with a specific focus on student recruitment, support, performance and workforce composition and culture. The Director designs and supports programs that provide opportunities for students, faculty and staff to embrace a culture of inclusiveness and how to address systemic issues that are contradictory to this objective. The Director also initiates, sponsors and supports training and educational opportunities that enhance the understanding of creating globally inclusive environment. The Director of Institutional Equity & Inclusion will collaborate with the Director of Multicultural Engagement/Title IX Coordinator to promote cultural awareness and engagement, educate on issues of identity, culture, and diversity, and provide avenues for intersection and opportunities for collaboration.

Position Description

  • Consult with a wide variety of stakeholders to develop and integrate equity and inclusion goals and strategies into all functions, at all levels, of the College
  • Provide strategic advice and counsel to College senior leadership on equity and inclusion-related issues; through on-going research of best practices and analysis, recommend strategies for continuous improvement
  • Collaborate with the Director of Multicultural Engagement/Title IX Coordinator on campus-wide multicultural programming initiatives
  • Contribute to and often lead the design and delivery of learning experiences, presentations, workshops and training, and provide consultation for individuals and groups within the campus community in efforts related to equity, inclusion and diversity, mutual respect
  • Coordinate campus awareness events
  • Assist the Human Resources department to support the diversification of employees at all levels, including, in part, through the hiring of faculty, staff and administration
  • Work with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness to complete relative annual assessments such as climate surveys.
  • Work with the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) on curriculum development and co-curricular programming
  • Form, develop and co-chair the Diversity, Equity & Inclusive Excellence Council to advocate, lead, create and guide diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives to include students, faculty, staff, alumni and external community partners
  • In collaboration with the Director of Multicultural engagement lead efforts to develop a strategic plan for the Center of Equity, Inclusion, & Multicultural Engagement
  • Monitor and evaluate progress in creating a more diverse and inclusive environment
  • Collaborate and regularly communicate with key college stakeholders, to include but not limited to: Human Resources, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Title IX Coordinators, Campus Police and other departments
  • Serve as a resource for students and work with the Human Resource Employee Relations Business Part regarding any employees concerns that are expressed about campus climate and culture.
  • Serve as a consultant for faculty, staff and administration on a broad range of opportunities, initiatives, and strategies
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned

 

Position Qualifications and/or Education

Minimum Qualifications and/or Education

  • Bachelors’ Degree in business management, organizational development, human resources or a related field
  • Three (3) years’ experience planning, designing and delivering programs and practices related to diversity and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications and/or Education

  • Masters’ Degree in business management, organizational development, human resources or a related field
  • Five (5) plus years’ experience planning, designing and delivering programs and practices related to diversity and inclusion
  • Experience working in a higher education setting
  • Bilingual English/Spanish

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated understanding of and experience working with culturally, racially and socio-economically diverse populations
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and intercultural skills. Experience building relationships, networking, and collaborating effectively with ethnically/culturally/socio-economically diverse populations and community organizations
  • Demonstrated experience developing, implementing and assessing diversity, equity and inclusion programming
  • Maintain knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, talk, hear, walk, and sit. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift items.

Work Schedule

40 hours per week, during regular hours of Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm. Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours.
