JOB PURPOSE:
This is a full-time position responsible for analyzing student loan requests and then certifying loans using the KCKCC financial aid administrative software which includes setting the loan disbursement amounts and dates and then notifying students regarding the loan award.  This staff member will cancel loan awards as needed and monitor loan eligibility for students. This individual will report directly to the Assistant Director of Student Financial Aid.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Determine student loan eligibility for student loan applicants and complete certification worksheet for each loan requested.
  • Resolve loan request discrepancies and insure the accuracy of information transmitted to and from the U.S. Department of Education is in compliance with federal student eligibility requirements.
  • Monitor and verify each student’s eligibility for a loan on the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS).
  • Award student’s loans based upon their eligibility using the administrative software program
  • Contacting students in a timely manner in regards to award notices and the resolution of conflicting data.
  • Research student demographic data to provide pre-claims assistance to federal loan servicers.
  • Respond promptly to student telephone inquiries and e-mails.
  • Cancel loan awards when students become ineligible or by student request.
  • Configure data annually on defaulted student loan borrowers.
  • Prepare and distribute consumer information to those students who have reached their subsidized or aggregate loan limits.
  • Monitor daily changes to student enrollment effecting loan eligibility.
  • Review any changes to the FAFSA which impacts the student’s loan eligibility.
  • Send loan exit information to students who have graduated or dropped to less than half-time.
  • Become knowledgeable of current federal, state and institutional regulations governing federal student aid.
  • Attend on and off campus financial aid training as recommended by supervisor.
  • Represent the Student Financial Aid Office at campus and public events as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Access, review and respond as needed to e-mail box.
  • Manage telephone voice mailbox.
  • Must be available for some travel and be able to work evening and weekend hours when required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge and proficiency in operating a computer and Microsoft Windows operating system software (WORD, EXCEL)
  • Minimum of two years of previous employment in a customer service, lending or business office field
  • Ability to maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with staff, faculty, students and public
  • Ability to work well with individuals with varying personality traits, abilities, and capabilities, both on the telephone and in person
  • Must be able to handle difficult situations with diplomacy
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA
  • Must possess a pleasant telephone demeanor and ability to answer questions about the college with a sense of pride
  • Must have the ability to organize work well and operate with composure under the pressure of deadlines
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision, and to initiate and work on projects independently, as time permits
  • Working knowledge of a web-based student information system
  • Must possess accurate keyboarding skills and be able to efficiently and accurately enter data
  • Excel at attention to detail and investigation skills
  • Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks in order to support departmental goals

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Associate’s Degree required. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of previous employment in a college financial aid office, lending or business office field required.
  • Experience working in a community college environment preferred.

SALARY:                 $35,000 per year to $37,500 ($16.83-$18.03 per hour)
