The Resident Assistant plays a critical role in assisting KCKCC students in having a positive residential experience.  As such, the Resident Assistant is responsible for responding to apartment maintenance requests, coordinating activities that focus on community building among residents, and ensuring that College behavioral policies are followed.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  1. Report to the Coordinator of Student Housing and Judicial Affairs, in the Division of Student Services.
  2. Respond to resident needs within a designated area of the Student Housing Complex.
  3. Share overall responsibility for the entire Complex on a rotating schedule with other R.A.’s.
  4. Encourage the social and academic success of all residents through planned programs and activities.
  5. Provide support and assistance to residents by responding appropriately to all crisis and emergency situations and conducting necessary follow-up.
  6. Assist residents, visitors, parents and College staff regarding Student Housing policies and procedures.
  7. Handle both routine and emergency maintenance needs in all areas of the Student Housing Complex.
  8. Enforce all policies regarding acceptable resident behavior in compliance with the KCKCC Student Code of Conduct and Student Housing Policies and Procedures.
 
CONSULTING TASKS
 
  1. Be highly visible and have frequent/ongoing contact with residents assigned to RAs specific area, and demonstrate leadership skills in dealing with both crisis and non-crisis situations.
  2. Maintain ongoing communication with the Coordinator of Student Housing and Judicial Affairs regarding all community development activities, facilities concerns, and well as resident behavior issues.
  3. Serve as a representative of the College when interacting with student parents, relatives and visitors.
 
 ADVISING RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  1. Assist assigned residents with academic and interpersonal needs on an ongoing basis.
  2. Ensure that visitors and overnight guests or residents clearly understand policies relevant to their presence in Student Housing.
 
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS
 
  1. At least one year of experience in an employment role of significant responsibility, strong work ethic and demonstrated leadership skills.
  2. Must be a full-time KCKCC student with enrollment in no more than 15 undergraduate hours.
  3. Must maintain a minimum 2.5 KCKCC cumulative GPA and be in good standing with the College and Student Housing for the duration of their employment.
  4. Must share on-duty schedule in the student housing complex.
  5. Prior experience in residential living preferred.
  6. Demonstrate commitment to personal integrity (such as modeling good judgment, ethical behavior, and adherence to laws and policies)
  7. Interpersonal communication skills
  8. Willingness to learn
  9. Understanding and appreciation for diversity (including the ability to demonstrate responsibility and respect for others’ rights, feelings, diverse backgrounds, and property.)
 
COMPENSATION

A two-bedroom, fully furnished apartment provided, free parking, and discounted tuition rates.  In addition, a $400 per month stipend will be paid on the 15th and 30th of each month and prorated for split months. No meal plan is provided. 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

This is a 12 month position.  Employment contract begins August 1, 2014.  RAs are required to attend staff development and training from August 4 – 8, 2014.  Staff Development and training is an intensive experience. Additional commitments are not possible during training/opening. Vacation and duty schedules are assigned by the Coordinator of Student Housing and Judicial Affairs, in cooperation with all staff according to the needs of the facility.
