Job Purpose: The Dean of Academic Support and Assessment is responsible for the sound management and strategic oversight of the departments within the division. 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage academic support personnel in the following departments: learning commons, library, learning services, center for teaching excellence, online services, and assessment.
  • Develop innovative strategies to support student learning and faculty teaching.
  • Oversee the assessment activities to ensure compliance of national and program-specific accreditation standards.
  • Oversee the budgets of the Academic Support and Assessment Division.
  • Ensure division compliance with college policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and manage the annual budget for the division
  • Support effective use of technology for learning in all settings.
  • Contribute to all necessary and relevant activities and duties to support accreditation.
  • Participate in and oversee the production of various reports for assessment of student learning and academic support initiatives
  • Work with division personnel and college faculty to oversee the design of course-based assessment tools, outcomes assessments and tools for data collection and analysis.
  • Work cooperatively with college personnel to design and implement student support and remediation programs for students who are not progressing on schedule.
  • Serve as a member of the Dean’s Council.
  • Work with division personnel to strategize on how to best serve the students, faculty, and staff who utilize the Learning Commons.
  • Work with deans to develop assessment instruments for alumni, transfer schools, and employers to provide feedback to inform development of relevant educational pathways.
  • Provide leadership for appropriate integration of learning technologies and pedagogy into instructional programs and activities, including distance education
  • Strategize with the directors of the Learning Commons, Online Services, Assessment, and the Center for Teaching Excellence to support the Academic Unit at KCKCC.
  • Provide written/oral reports on the performance of the Academic Support and Assessment Division.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Must understand and endorse the philosophy of the comprehensive, urban community college.
  • Experience with online, library and learning center services.
  • Knowledge or familiarity with learning technologies and distance education
  • Knowledge or experience with directing the development of student learning outcomes and their assessments and using the results to improve student learning
  • Must possess strong written and oral communication skills, with a proven ability to build consensus among colleagues.
  • Must demonstrate strong leadership and management skills and a record of accomplishment in planning and budgeting.
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to and ability to work with a diverse student and faculty population.
  • Must demonstrate an interest and commitment to learning for life for students, staff, faculty, and self.
  • Must be experienced with current technology and classroom application of current technology.
  • Must be willing to lead the Division toward innovative use of current technology in the learning process.
  • Prior experience in assessment activities at the college level.
  • Ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships and establish credibility with all levels of employee in the organization.
  • Strong analytical skills and detail oriented.
  • Demonstrated ability to use independent judgment to successfully initiate and carry projects to completion.
  • Ability to solve complex problems by using best practices and alternative methods.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Master degree required.  A masters in higher education, curriculum design, or educational technology is preferred. 
  • Three years (3) teaching experience at the college/university level, preferably in a community college setting.
  • Knowledge of and experience with developing and evaluating assessment strategies; student learning behaviors; student learning outcomes; program learning outcomes; and HLC compliance.
  • Must have experience with course content development and course delivery systems to include on-line and hybrid courses.

SALARY:   Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
