Department: Early Childhood Education and Development
Job title: Lab Assistant- Early Childhood
Reports to: Early Childhood Education and Development (ECED) Coordinator and the Dean of KCKCC Behavioral and Social Sciences Division, the Assistant shall work with and assist the ECED faculty.
Supervises: N/A
Position type: Part Time – 29 hours per week
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

 

JOB PURPOSE:
This position is responsible for providing field-based supervision, instruction and evaluation for students in ECED courses who are participating in field placement at community partner sites.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Observe, provide feedback and evaluate community college students in their field-based experience with young children, providing oral and written feedback; model for students the skills taught in ECED courses.
  • Ensure students follow safety practices.
  • Complete required paperwork, including evaluations according to deadlines.
  • Work closely with course faculty to meet course outcomes, and coordinate instruction for assigned students.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and field site meetings.
  • Participate in professional development to improve instructional skills and stay current in early childhood education and development professional knowledge skills.
  • Assist in the responsibilities of transportation of students during field trips per the College’s policies and guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Applicant should have professional discipline specific knowledge related to curriculum, guidance and high quality early childhood education programming.
  • Applicant should have experience in adult learning instructional practices and reflective supervision.
  • Applicant should have experience in care and teaching of young children age birth- grade 3, typically and atypically developing or at-risk.
  • Must understand the philosophy of the urban, open-door community college.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, child development or a related field with at least 18 credits in child development, early education or special education.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in direct service to children in early childhood education programs for children age five and below.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience providing professional guidance, supervision or training of adults in early childhood settings.

SALARY: Compensation is commensurate with education and experience.


WORK SCHEDULE:

Must be able to work a variable schedule/varying hours to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours; as needed.
