Kansas City Kansas Community College is searching for Adjunct faculty for the Fall 2015 Semester who are creative, open to change, have a passion for learning, and are willing to promote the mission of the College.
 
The Pioneer Career Center is seeking an Adjunct Instructor to teach Construction Technology for the Fall 2015 Semester at the Pioneer Career Center. 
 
The position will consist of providing instructional and development services at all levels of construction technology as established by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) for its curriculum and certification guidelines. Various instructional strategies will be used, including traditional classroom methods, hands-on demonstrations/participation, computer/web-based instruction, and/or various combinations of approaches.
 
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  1. Provide formal instruction and leadership in construction technology and advanced manufacturing technology as assigned utilizing NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research) curriculum and materials.
  2. Specify, select, install, operate, and maintain necessary equipment and/or training modules required to support the specific course(s) being taught within departmental budget restraints.
  3. Provide regular, timely reports to students of academic performance including current grades in course(s) taught.
  4. Demonstrate commitment to the program, division, and total institution by timely attendance and submission of required grade, attendance, or other miscellaneous reports to the administration.
  5. Participate in marketing activities for the division and/or institution by interfacing with the college’s Public Information Director to provide supporting materials as required for the development of advertising promotions such as brochures, media spots, web pages, posters, etc.
  6. Initiate and/or maintain the ongoing integration of alternative and renewable energy concepts into the construction program.
  7. Develop and maintain a professional development plan.
  8. Submit required reports by deadlines.           
  9. Meet classes at the listed times.
  10. Serve on institutional committees as needed.
  11. Support college activities
  12. Perform departmental and divisional responsibilities.
  13. Teach at other centers or locations if needed.
  14. Dismiss classes only with prior approval from the division dean.
  15. Other related duties as assigned by appropriate administrator.
 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
 
No direct administrative supervision but occasional task assignment/monitoring for a lab assistant, student classroom assistant, work-study helper, or student intern.
 
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
 
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
 
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS
 
  1. Must have or qualify to obtain NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research) certification in applicable construction technology subject areas.
  2. Ability to plan, organizes, and implements assigned tasks in an effective and timely manner.
  3. Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, other faculty, professional/classified staff, supervision, industrial advisory panels, and the public.
  4. Information Technology abilities required: (Staff development and Training is offered on a regular basis.)
  5. Ability to understand operating a personal computer within the KCKCC network environment.
  6. Ability to use email.
  7. Ability to perform basic functions of the college’s database (Datatel).
  8. Ability to perform basic word processing using MS Word.
  9. Ability to perform basic presentation functions using MS PowerPoint.
  10. Ability to perform basic functions in current AutoCad or similar software.
  11. Ability to perform basic Web Advisor functions.
  12. Must be fully computer literate and be able to operate a personal computer using the Microsoft Windows environment utilizing common Microsoft word processing, spreadsheet, and graphical presentation applications.
  13. Applicant must be able to specify, select, inventory, install, operate, and maintain all equipment specified in NCCER materials applicable to the areas being taught.
 
 
WORKING CONDITIONS
 
  1. Indoor in a normal classroom and shop time as well as outdoors in either construction technology or advanced manufacturing setting. Work conditions can involve considerable exposure to temperature changes, noise, dust, or chemicals.
  2. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
  3. A neat appearance and apparel appropriate to a classroom/shop environment are required.
 
 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
 
  1. Work involves the setup and operation of potentially hazardous equipment and machinery as well as the occasional lifting and moving of construction and manufacturing components and materials requiring the lifting of at least 50 pounds. Mobility within the classroom and shop are required.
  2. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, or crouch; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision for the assembly of parts and for the avoidance of mechanical and electrical hazards.
  3. Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of people, including staff, students, and the public, in both written and oral mediums.
  4. The position requires the ability to read and understand technical journals and similar publications.
  5. The position requires the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
 
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
 
  1. Bachelor’s degree in Construction Technology preferred
  2. Five years of directly applicable experience in Construction Technology required
  3. Teaching experience is preferred.
 
 
SALARY:        $742.00 per credit hour
