Reports directly to the Director of the Wellness and Fitness and/or Exercise Science Coordinator, the Part-Time Lifeguard/Wellness & Fitness Center Staff shall be responsible for:
 
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  1. Provide lifeguard coverage for the aquatic classes.
  2. Provides on deck supervision of the pool at all times and maintain a constant vigil of all activities in the pool.
  3. Responds to emergency situations in a quick manner, and executes emergency plan.
  4. Informs supervisor of all incidents and completes appropriate documentation.
  5. Enforces all rules and regulations of the pool and Wellness & Fitness Center to prevent accidents and minimize and eliminate hazardous situations in and around the pool and the Wellness & Fitness Center.
  6. Responsible for securing the pool area after each class session by returning all items to the storage areas.
  7. Greet participants in a timely fashion with a positive, friendly and helpful attitude.
  8. Attentively and promptly respond to participant’s needs and accurately answering questions.
  9. Promote a positive public relation for the college.
  10. Ensure proper check in and check out procedures is followed.
  11. Gain familiarity with overall facility activities and incentive programs.
  12. Maintains checkout of towels and lap counters.
  13. Answer telephone inquiries and obtains appropriate information and transfer calls as necessary.
  14. Schedule personal training and orientation appointments.
  15. Ensure clean, folded towels are accessible to participants at all times.
  16. Ensure all supplies are adequately stocked on the fitness floor, locker rooms and in the laundry room.  Inform the Director of any needed supplies.
  17. Maintain a clean, organized working environment at the front desk, on the exercise floor, weight room, aerobic studio, locker rooms, walking track and at the pool.  This includes but is not limited to re-racking weights and balls, straightening and re-aligning equipment, and re-wrapping cords, bands and other fitness equipment.
  18. Conduct regular facility rounds during assigned shifts including a walk through the locker rooms, around the track, weight room and fitness floor.
  19. Responsible for light duty cleaning and disinfecting of fitness equipment in and around the facility.
  20. Control audio/visual equipment.
  21. Data base entry of Wellness & Fitness Center Consent & Release forms.
  22. Adhere to authorized dress code.
  23. Perform other duties and tasks as assigned within the department and the Director.
 
CONSULTING TASKS
 
  1. Assisting with computer log-in and data entry.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit.  Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift items.  The employee is directly responsible for safety, wellbeing, and work output.
 
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as the ability to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
 
 
  1. Must have strong observational skills to proactively identify participant’s needs and ensure safety guidelines are being followed.
  2. Immediately rescue participants in danger of drowning and administer First Aid or CPR as necessary.
  3. Perform work that may involve lifting participants, in and out of the pool up to 100 lbs. or more with assistance.
 
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
 
  1. High school diploma or equivalent required.
  2. Must have current AED/CPR certification or be able to be re-certified.
  3. Must have current lifeguard certification or be able to be re-certified.
  4. Previous Lifeguarding or Swimming Instructor experience preferred.
 
SALARY:                     $11.18/per hour - (20 hours per week)
