FULL-TIME ADDICTION COUNSELING INSTRUCTOR/COORDINATOR

Kansas City Kansas Community College is seeking an individual to teach classes in Addiction Counseling beginning fall, 2016. This person will be responsible for all aspects of the program and report directly to the Dean of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. The teaching load will consist of 30 credit hours for the two-semester academic year but will receive 3 hours of reassigned time for coordinating activities. Additional opportunities for teaching during the summer may be available.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
Instructional
 
  • Teach ADCN courses with clear and measurable objectives, including clinical practicums and establishing internships.
  • Demonstrate ongoing professional development while sustaining desirable classroom results.
  • Maintain a student-oriented approach to education, including recruitment, enrollment, advising, etc.
  • Create and review instructional materials, such as course syllabi, descriptions, outlines, examinations, et al., maintaining alignment with state and national certification and licensure requirements.
  • Design and revise curriculum and assessments to enhance program effectiveness.
  • Prepare all reports required by the college and appropriate external agencies (Kansas State Department of Education, etc.).
  • Establish and nurture a high profile in the public sector, partnering with boards, treatment facilities, schools, and government agencies.
  • Develop and enhance mutually beneficial partnerships with area high school counselors, community education professionals, and other appropriate agencies.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative and transfer articulations with area colleges and universities.
  • Serve on division and college-wide committees, representing the program in matters of governance.
  • Collaborate fully with students, faculty, administrators, businesses, and community organizations.
 
Program Coordination
 
  • Prepare a robust academic schedule for each semester, remaining open to revision.
  • Draft annual operating budget in support of program goals.
  • Participate in coordinators' meetings and college training as appropriate.
  • Review adjunct applications and participate in interview process.
  • Mentor and assign adjunct faculty to ensure alignment within program.
  • Establish and maintain an effective program of recruitment and outreach.
  • Exercise fiscal responsibility in daily operations, planning expenditures, etc.
  • Oversee all aspects of long-range planning and ongoing program development.
  • Design and execute strategic recruitment and outreach activities, seeking and participating in a variety of opportunities for program promotion.
 
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • Seek opportunities to engage ADCN student’s on- and off-campus.
  • Arrange field experiences and/or visiting scholars as appropriate.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.
 
CONSULTING TASKS
 
 
  • Maintain program advisory board with representation from appropriate related industries.
  • Consult with students, faculty, administrators, and staff in support of program, division, and college-wide initiatives.
 
SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • Coordinate adjunct faculty and tutors in the ADCN program.
 
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
 
  • College-level teaching experience required.
  • Demonstrated participation in interdisciplinary teaching and learning initiatives required.
  • Ability to perform well in an urban community college serving a diverse population required.
  • Documented record of establishing and maintaining appropriate professional relationships.
  • Work experience in the field strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with other instructors, staff, and administrators.
  • Managerial or administrative experience desirable.
 
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
 
  • A Master's degree in psychology, human services, or health-related field is required; PhD preferred.
  • Possession of Kansas License (BSRB) and Missouri Certification or proof of eligibility required.
  • Experience teaching and relating to individuals from diverse academic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds required.
  • Preference may be given to persons fluent in a second language, especially Spanish.

EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION:  EXEMPT, 541.3
 
SALARY:    Commensurate with education and experience per the Master Contract.
