Reporting directly to the Dean of Institutional Services, the Director of the Library fulfills a Staff position responsible for managing library services for an urban community college, including library personnel, budget, resources, and maintaining all print and digital resources.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Develop and direct all aspects of the library for an online and multi-campus environment, including fiscal, collection development and library personnel.
  2. Coordinate collection development including media, government documents, print and digital resources.
  3. Supervise library collections and personnel at the Technical Education Center and Pioneer Career Center.
  4. Chair hiring committee for all faculty and staff hired in the library.
  5. Assess and develop the library’s collections and services to assure excellent support of the college’s curriculum.  Provide leadership and direction for accreditation, certification, and reporting processes.
  6. Approve all collection and library purchases to assure they meet the needs of the college now and in the future.
  7. Coordinates and manages the library index The Morgue.
  8. Actively seek grant and other funding opportunities for the library.
  9. Support online and distance learning efforts to assure student success with appropriate library resources.
  10. Develop and maintain a virtual library presence including the library web page and LibGuides.
  11. Provide leadership in evaluating emerging technologies.  Recommend and implement new applications to enhance library instruction, resources, services, and communication.
  12. Collect and analyze data and provide reports on the use of academic library resources, to include database use statistics, circulation statistics, and user surveys.
  13. Manage the integrated library system (EOS) and collaborate with vendor to resolve access or usage issues.
  14. Promote use of digital resources and ensure they are appropriately accessible.  Troubleshoot and work with vendors to resolve issues.
  15. Understanding of copyright compliance requirements.
  16. Provide statistical/narrative reports as requested.
  17. Coordinate the implementation, processing and ongoing maintenance of the electronic resources collection through the life cycle of each resource.
  18. Serve as a member of college committees as assigned.
  19. Support college-wide student academic assessment, advisement, and retention efforts.
  20. Work with teaching faculty to strengthen academic programs.
  21. Communicate with faculty, students, and appropriate administrators regarding library practices and policies.  Promote the library resources, services and activities to faculty, staff, students and the community.
  22. Ensure the development of and implementation of mission, policy, and long-range goals (coordinated and consistent with the college’s mission and policies).
  23. Provide leadership and direction for accreditation, certification, and reporting processes.
  24. Represent the library to the campus and to local, regional and state communities.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  1. Demonstrated knowledge of all aspects of library operations, including extensive knowledge of contemporary library practices, trends and emerging technologies.
  2. Working knowledge of library automation systems, online resources and instructional technologies.
  3. Effective analytical, organizational, problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  4. Ability to work effectively with administration, faculty, and students
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Expertise with outcomes and assessment of library services.
  2. Experience in strategic planning and budget management.
  3. Experience using technologies to provide and enhance library services and their changing roles in higher education.
  4. Substantive knowledge in information technology and library services.
  5. Leadership experience with emerging technologies and their implementation in academic library management.
  6. Demonstrated understanding of the library’s mission in a multi-campus urban community college.
  7. Demonstrated ability to develop, supervise, and maintain productive and collegial relationships within the library and beyond.
  8. Demonstrated effective decision-making abilities.
  9. Commitment to enhancing and facilitating library use by faculty, staff, and students.
  10. Record of success with changing information, teaching and learning, research, and technological needs and issues.
  11. Ability to articulate a vision of the 21st-century library and its role in the academic institution.
 
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  1. Master’s Degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited institution.
  2. Minimum of five (5) years of experience in an academic library setting including supervisory experience in increasingly responsible positions

SALARY:                     $68,000- $72,000
