PART-TIME TEACHER  -  CHILD CARE CENTER

Reporting directly to the Director of the Campus Child Care Center, the Part-Time Teacher shall be responsible for providing a learning environment for children enrolled in the Campus Child Care Center.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  1. Assist in preparing and implementing lesson plans for the children in one of the self-contained classrooms at the center.
  2. Assist in maintaining open communication with families including assisting with newsletters, verbal communications and daily notes.
  3. Assist in maintenance of child portfolios.
  4. Assist with providing a learning atmosphere and various learning experiences in the classroom that will foster and enhance the children’s growth and development while remaining culturally sensitive and anti-bias.
  5. Assist with submitting lesson plans that include themes, specific activities, goals and objectives evaluations and materials to the Director of the Child Care Center every Friday for the curricula activities for the following week.
  6. Working cooperatively with the Director of the Center and the Coordinator of the college Early Childhood Education Program to provide appropriate and meaningful experiences for the college students.
  7. Assist lead teacher in maintaining accurate and timely meal attendance records, child/teacher ratios forms, parent communications, incident reports and other paperwork as determined by director.
  8. Maintain open and honest, and professional communication with the director at all times.
  9. Assist in performing child development screenings and parent/teacher conferences each semester.
  10. Assist lead teacher in screening child learning and adapt curriculum accordingly.
  11. Maintain open, honest and frequent parent communication.
  12. Maintain a professional demeanor and appearance as well as written and verbal communication style at all times.
  13. Maintain confidentiality surrounding all aspects of the job at all times.
  14. Maintain and promote a sense of diversity and community within the building at all times.
  15. Remain updated and in compliance with Kansas Department of Health and Environment and Kansas Department of Children and Families regulations at all times.
  16. Be constantly prepared for media events
  17. Use technology appropriately to enhance children’s learning and support other job functions and responsibilities.
  18. Mentor and coach co-teacher(s) involved in classroom activities and assist them in gaining competence and confidence in working with children, families and community.
  19. Work cooperatively with Dean of Student Services Center Director, co-workers, work-studies, volunteers, and all other entities operating within and alongside the Campus Child Care Center.
  20. Performing other duties as assigned by director
 
CONSULTING TASKS
 
  1. Assisting the Director of the Child Care Center in supervising and escorting the children attending the Center on field trips.
  2. Remain aware of, involved in, and seeking of community partnerships
  3. Performing other duties as assigned by the Director of the Child Care Center.
 SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  1. Assist with supervising children, both indoors and outdoors, in learning experiences appropriate for the various children according to their ages.
  2. Assist with supervising students from the college Early Childhood Education Program who are assigned to the Center’s classrooms for observation and/or internship experiences.
  3. Assist with supervising and directing College Work-Study, Early Childhood Education Interns and Summer Youth Worker students in their daily tasks as assigned by the Director.
  4. Assist with supervising, directing, and evaluating Foster Grandparents assigned by Catholic Charities.
  
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
 
  1. Must be able to meet Kansas Certification requirements for licensed child care including current physical and TB test (skin or x-rays)
  2. Must have and maintain Kansas Mandated Reporter Training (child abuse and neglect) current pediatric First Aid, CPR, EpiPen and AED certification, abusive head trauma, signs and symptoms of illness training.
  3. Must have knowledge, understanding and experience in the concepts of patterns of a child growth and development for the ages 18 months through 12 years
  4. Must be familiar with the Americans with Disabilities Act and be able to work with children with special needs.
  5. Must be familiar with Kansas Quality Rating Improvement System and National Association for the Education of Young Children Standards, Policies, Procedures, and Best Practices
  6. Must be capable of working cooperatively with parents, college students, other personnel of the child care center, administrators, and the children being served by the Center.
  7. Must be willing to work on an as-needed basis.
  8. Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
  9. Must be able to work under the pressure of deadlines.
  10. Must have reliable transportation to and from work in all weather and circumstances
  11. The ability and willingness to transport children in either a car or 15 passenger van is preferred
  12. If able and willing to transport children, must maintain knowledge regarding seatbelt and car seat regulations
  13. If able and willing to transport children, must obtain certification to drive College vehicles through the Buildings and Grounds Department                          
  14. Must be able to utilize technology appropriately and efficiently to enhance children’s learning and assist with other job duties and responsibilities.
 EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
 
  1. Associate in Arts degree from an accredited Early Childhood Education Program required. Bachelor’s degree preferred
  2. At least 3 years of experience working with children in a Child Care Center of Child Care Home setting.
 
POLICY COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS 
All teachers must comply with the following policies and procedures

Hourly Employees shall not access social media sites for personal use during College time if such access interferes with the employees’ performance and/or completion of his or her job duties as an employee of the College. This includes accessing these sites with any technology including but not limited to college computers, PDA’s cell phones, Blackberries, and or iPhones.
  3. Read, sign off on, and regularly review staff handbook and discipline policy.
  4. Remain up to date on and in compliance with the Center Wellness Policy and all subsequent policies and activities
  5. Adhere to all College Policies and Procedures and remaining updated on changes to policies, procedures, and regulations such as Title IX and FERPA.
  6. Attend at least 45 hours professional development training hours per calendar year

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as the ability to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
 
 
  1. Physical ability sufficient to be able to lift 2-5 year old children, if necessary, and lead activities.
  2. Visual, Auditory, and Vocal ability sufficient to continually observe and direct children’s activities.
 
SALARY:              $11.18 per hour
