PART TIME LAB ASSISTANT – EMT
(3 positions)

Reporting directly to the EMT/Paramedic Director, the Lab Instructor shall work with and assist the EMT/Paramedic Instructors in the following areas:
 
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  1. Provide technical guidance in the performance of specific task in EMT/Paramedic courses.
  2. Observe and document student performance of tasks assigned by EMT/Paramedic Instructors (i.e. patient assessment, fracture management, and running mock scenarios)
  3. Ensure safety practices are followed by students.
  4. Follow required safety procedures in handling of needles and waste products.
  5. Maintain records of repair requests for proper accountability of equipment.
  6. Maintain control of college owned simulation mannequins and equipment used by students.
  7. Enforcing all rules and regulations, per the college’s guidelines and other enforcement agencies that govern student practices of KCKCC.
  8. Being responsible for the transportation of students during field trips per the College’s policies and guidelines.
  9. Traveling with students to off campus activities.
  10. Performing other duties as assigned by the respective instructor.
  11. Setting up and tearing down practical skill stations.
  12. Work schedule will be part-time, 29 hours or less per week.
  13. With a minimum of 60 hours a semester and a maximum of 29 hours a week.
 
CONSULTING TASKS
 
  1. May consult with EMT/Paramedic faculty and students.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
 
  1. Must know and be able to teach proper technique in EMS.
  2. Must have the ability to work with individuals of various backgrounds and abilities.
  3. Must understand the philosophy of the urban, open-door community college.
  4. Applicant must be able to lift 100 lbs. on a regular basis.
  5. Applicant must be able to work mornings, afternoons and evenings with an occasional weekend day.
  6. Applicant must be caring and compassionate, must be able to fully evaluate students to gauge competency levels.
   
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
 
  1. Certification by the Kansas Board of EMS as an EMT, AEMT or Paramedic
  2. Applicant must have experience as an EMT/Paramedic in a clinical or field setting.
  3. High school diploma or equivalent required; Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  4. Applicant must have proper knowledge of radio communications.
  5. Applicant must have excellent working knowledge of EMS operations and ICS.
  6. Applicant must have BLS certification.  Additional certification in PEPP, PHTLS, and ITLS.
  7. Instructor status in the above certification is preferred.  Certification as a TO I, TO II, or I/C through the KSBEMS is also preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit.  Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift items.  The employee is directly responsible for safety, wellbeing, and work output.
 
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as the ability to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
 
 
  1. Employee is regularly required to talk to students or hear to responses from students or faculty.
  2. Employee regularly is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands/fingers to handle or feel objects such as tools, keyboards, mannequins etc. and reach with hands and arms to push or pull equipment.
  3. Employee must be able to lift 100 pounds such as emergency bag, equipment mannequins or books.
 
SALARY:                 $17.05 per hour.  (29 hours or less per week)
(If a current KCKCC employee is selected for this position, consideration will be given to his/her current salary.)
