JOB PURPOSE:
The Maintenance Worker shall report to the Assistant Director of Buildings & Grounds and be responsible for the maintenance, upkeep, remodeling, and general operation of the physical plant.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Diagnosis and repair of minor lighting problems; (i.e. changing ballasts, light switches, and 110-volt receptacles).
  • Prepare surfaces to be painted.  Paint with a brush or roller.
  • Hang bulletin boards, shelving, etc., using squares, levels, and wall anchors.
  • Repair damaged drywall.
  • Operate machinery and equipment generally used in school systems and industrial plants..
  • Grounds work such as mowing, weed and shrub trimming, picking up trash and all work related to grounds work and maintenance of athletics fields.
  • Assist the Assistant Director with special projects.
  • Assist the Assistant Director with set-ups and tear downs of activities as needed.
  • Assist the Assistant Director in achieving departmental goals.
  • Assisting the Assistant Director in maintaining the safety of the campus.
  • May be required to work evenings and weekends, including during inclement weather.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of how to use and operate hand tools, power tools, and equipment found in large facilities.
  • Ability to work alone or as a member of a group.
  • Ability to perform routine preventative maintenance as directed by the Assistant Director.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience working in the field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Diploma or course work in any building trade preferred.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as the ability to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.

  • Physical ability sufficient to lift 50lbs. of material and carry several feet.
  • Physical ability sufficient to work around the clock.
  • Physical ability sufficient to work in extreme varying temperature ranges.
  • Hearing ability sufficient to notice alarms and mechanical malfunctions.
  • Visual ability sufficient to drive vehicles.

All applicants tentatively selected for the position of PT Maintenance Worker at Kansas City Kansas Community College will be required to submit to and successfully complete a physical examination and criminal background check prior to appointment.  Applicants will also be required to submit to a urinalysis to screen for illegal or prohibited drug use.  Appointment is contingent upon test results.

HOURS:                  Monday- Thursday 6:00 am-12:00 pm
                              Friday 6:00 am-11:00 am

SALARY:                  $11.26 per hour
