COORDINATOR- INTERCULTURAL CENTER

The Coordinator of Intercultural Center will be responsible for helping to provide students, faculty, staff and the community with an enriched environment that celebrates the cultural contributions of the diverse population and to foster greater cultural interaction, understanding, and education.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • Assist the Director with Projects and duties as assigned
  • Assist in program development
  • Assist in coordination of activities in the Intercultural Center
  • Provide assistance for International, Latino, Biz Fest, ESOL, immigrant and first-generation students
  • Co-Advise (Lead advisory position) International Student Organization/Student Organization of Latinos
  • Maintain Student Organizations and My Shelf to Yours finances and documentation
  • Provide language interpretation (multilingual) for students and other college constituents
  • Coordinate International Student Orientation
  • Represent KCKCC at various community and college events
  • Represent KCKCC at local and out-of-state conferences, such as HACU, Excellencia, Student Leadership conferences, NAFSA, KIE, etc.
  • Design promotional materials for the Center
  • Respond to phone and e-mail inquires
  • Assist with set-up for all meetings and activities in Center
  • Facilitate interdepartmental communication
  • Document and Report as assigned
 CONSULTING TASKS
 
  • Consult with and assist Director of Cultural Outreach or equivalent position(s) regarding Biz Fest Students and Latino-related community projects.
  • Consult with and assist Assistant Director of Admissions/International Students or equivalent position(s).
  • Consult with and assist Coordinator of ESOL program.
  • Consult with and assist diverse community groups.
 
SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • Supervising work-study students, interns and volunteers.
 
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
 
  • Must speak Spanish fluently.
  • Must possess a familiarity of cultures of various global regions and be sensitive to others’ needs.
  • Must be able to interact with people from various backgrounds and ethnicities.
  • Must be able to operate a computer, have Microsoft Office Suites experience and possess knowledge of design programs.
  • Must be able to work under the pressure of deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Must be organized and able to work on more than one project at a time.
  • Ability to work with others, take the lead on projects, and takes initiative when needed.
 EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
 
  1. Bachelor’s Degree Required. Master’s preferred.
  2. Minimum of three years of experience in education, working with multicultural, diverse and minority populations, or related experience.
  3. Ability to speak Spanish required.
 
WORKING HOURS
Regular hours scheduled within core hours of college. Some weekends, evenings and travel required.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as the ability to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
 
 
  1. Visual ability sufficient to operate computer and assist with setups and displays.
  2. Hearing ability sufficient to be able to answer questions and assist patrons of the Center.
 
 
SALARY:              $ 33,724.33/per year, plus fringe benefits
(If a current KCKCC employee is selected for this position, consideration will be given to his/her current salary.)
