EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  1. Master of Science degree in Nursing required.
  2. Must be licensed in Kansas or Missouri and eligible for licensure in Kansas/Missouri.
  3. Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience.
  4. One year of teaching experience preferred – must be willing to maintain clinical competence.

SUMMARY:   To help students’ master subject matter and skills that will contribute to their personal and intellectual development.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
 
1.         Support College Policies and Procedures, Growth and Enhancement of Mission: 
            a.          Convene scheduled classes in accordance with college policy.
            b.          Maintain regular office hours to ensure accessibility to students and colleagues.
            c.          Maintain confidentiality of student information.
            d.          Exercise stewardship of college facilities and materials.
            e.          Advise and mentor students.
            f.           Contribute to college and division collaborative planning and development processes as they apply
                         to the student learning process. 
            g.          As a part of shared governance principles, support recruitment and retention of students, faculty, and staff.
            h.          Serve on committees and make a contribution to the work of the committee.
 
2.         Instruction:  Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals, in harmony with,
                        establishing clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and communicate these objectives to students. 
            a.         Communicate teaching philosophy to students.
            b.         Articulate, accept, and uphold the mission and purpose of Kansas City Kansas Community College.
            c.         Demonstrate a student-centered philosophy.
            d.         Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of the field or discipline.
            e.         Stay current in subject matter through professional development activities.
            f.          Infuse diversity into curriculum.
            g.         Infuse local, community, global and environmental awareness into curriculum.
 
 
3.         Facilitation of the Teaching Learning Process: 
            a.         Plan and organize instruction in ways which maximize student learning.
            b.         Construct competency-based syllabi.
            c.         Maintain up-to-date course content.
            d.         Provide learning activities that meet course objectives.
            e.         Incorporate appropriate General Education learning outcomes into curriculum.
            f.          Meet learning needs of diverse student populations.
            g.         Integrate available instructional technology when appropriate.
            h.         Select texts and supporting materials.
 
4.         Evaluation of Student Learning: 
            a.         Adhere to division-determined and KBOR approved course outcomes.
            b.         Adhere to college, State, and Federal established deadlines for submitting reports and records related to
                        student learning and student outcomes.
            c.         Maintain accurate records of student progress.
            d.         Assess Student Learning: Utilize assessment techniques to monitor student progress and success as
                        outlined in the division and college assessment plans.

5.         Technology: 
            a.         Operate and stay current on appropriate instructional technology equipment
                        (overheads, computers, display devices, Smart classroom equipment, etc.).
            b.         Demonstrate computer literacy and internet Skills.
            c.         Retrieve and manage information via technology.
            d.         Provide online instruction.
 
6.         Communication: 
            a.         Communicate effectively using reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills with
                        students, faculty, staff, and administration.
            b.         Work in teams.
 
7.         Attendance: 
            a.         Attend and participate in division meetings and events.
            b.         Participate in professional activities that contribute to the educational goals of the 
                        college and its constituents such as: presentation at conferences in discipline, 
                        publishing in journals, books, etc. 
            c.         Participate in graduation exercises.
 
 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
            Supervises classroom and students.

            Adjuncts cannot teach more than 10 credit hours per semester.
 
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
            Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures,
            or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. 
            Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients,
            customers, and the general public.
 
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
            Ability to work with mathematical concepts such a probability and statistical inference. 
            Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
 
REASONING ABILITY:
            Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where
            only limited standardization exists. 
            Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
 
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
            Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to 
            plan and implement lessons based on division and college objectives and the needs and
            abilities of students to whom assigned.  Ability to establish and maintain effective
            relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication.
 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
            The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully

            While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and
            sometimes walk and sit.  Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person. 
            While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs.
            such as boxes of  books and AV/VCR carts. 
            The employee is directly responsible for safety, well-being, or work output of other people.
 
            Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision:  ability to read handwritten or typed material, 
            the ability to adjust focus.  The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and
            interact with the public and other staff.
