CUSTODIAN (TECHNICAL EDUCATION CENTER)

Reporting directly to the Supervisor of Custodians, the Custodian shall be responsible for performing tasks needed and assigned that relate to the maintenance and cleanliness of the buildings and grounds.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.   Perform needed maintenance and cleanliness of the physical plant and grounds of the Technical
      Education Center.
2.   Assist in the set-up of classrooms, offices, etc., for various classes and activities at the Technical  
      Education Center.
3.   Assist in the performance of whatever tasks are necessary in the maintenance of the grounds during          
      inclement weather and/or conditions.
4.   Able to adjust schedule; days or hours, to cover events if necessary.
5.   Able to clean blinds, windows, glass doors, sweep, mop and/or vacuum floors.
6.   Able to empty trash and remove recycling materials.
7.   Able to dust furniture, pictures, vents and walls.
8.   Able to be on-call on a 24-hour-per-day, 7-days-per-week.
9.   Must be willing to work when needed in order to maintain the functioning of the campus.
      This may include weekends and holidays. 
10. Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Custodians.
 
CONSULTING TASKS
1.   Assist the Supervisor with special projects.
2.   Assist the Supervisor in achieving departmental goals.
3.   Assist the Supervisor in maintaining the safety of the campus.
4.   Assist, where needed, in the movement and installation of equipment, office furnishings, lights, etc.
5.   Assist with receiving and delivering shipments at the TEC.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
            1.   Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
            2.   Ability to be on time when scheduled.
            3.   Ability to work well under the pressure of deadlines required.
            4.   Ability to work well with minimal supervision.
            5.   Ability to work well with individuals with various abilities and backgrounds.
            6.   Ability to learn tasks that relate to the maintenance of the campus buildings and grounds.
            7.   Ability to take care of customer service request or undesirable tasks, on short notice and in a      
                  professional manner.
            8.   Must be able to read and understand written directions for the mixing, dilution, and use of  
                  hazardous chemicals. 
 
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
1.   High school diploma or equivalent required.
2.   At least (6) months experience in general custodial work preferred.
 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit.  Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift items.  The employee is directly responsible for safety, wellbeing, and work output.
 
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as the ability to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
 
            1.   Physical ability sufficient to operate cleaning machinery and assist in function set-ups.
            2.   Physical ability to push and/or pull carts.
            3.   Physical ability to lift and recycle custodial supplies and trash into truck compactor and bins.
            4.   Physical ability sufficient to recognize areas that require cleaning attention.
 
All applicants tentatively selected for this position at Kansas City Kansas Community College will be
required to submit to and successfully complete a physical examination and criminal background
check prior to appointment.  Applicants will also be required to submit to a urinalysis to screen illegal
or prohibited drug use.  Appointment to the position is contingent upon negative drug test results.
 
 
SALARY:              $25,011.98/year plus fringe benefits    
 
HOURS:                Monday-Friday 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
