Job Purpose: The LPN College Nurse strengthens and facilitates the educational process by modifying or reducing health-related barriers to learning of individual students and by promoting an optimal level of wellness for students and staff. The LPN College Nurse also represents to Coordinator of Student Health Services at various events, both on and off-campus.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under the direction of the Professional, Registered Nurse the LPN will provide both clerical and technical assistance to the Coordinator of Student Health Services to ensure the smooth running of Office.
  • Assumes responsibility for appropriate assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation, management, and/or referral activities of students and staff.
  • Collaborates with RN to serve as the link between physicians, students, families, and community agencies to assure access and continuity of health care of students.
  • Monitor immunizations for continuing compliance and adheres to TB test administration standards.
  • Daily duties to include maintaining routine office flow, telephone triage, daily, quality assurance testing.
  • Weekly, monthly duties to include AED and emergency equipment maintenance and quality assurance, assisting RN with inventory of supplies for health office.
  • In collaboration with the RN, provides relevant instruction, counseling, and guidance to students, parents, staff, and others concerning health-related issues and community resources.
  • Upholds professional standards, the state Nurse Practice Act, and other state and local statutes and regulations applicable to school nursing practice in a college setting, and adheres to policies, administrative guidelines and KCKCC mission statement.
  • Assists the Coordinator of Student Health Services in conducting multiple Flu clinics for staff, faculty, students and the community.
  • Receive calls from students who are missing class due to medical reasons and refer this information to the proper faculty members.
  • Maintain proper equipment in office is calibrated on a monthly and yearly basis.
  • Maintain temperature of TB solutions and record keeping of data, as well as keeping inventory stock record.
  • Maintaining CLIA licensure in the office to run testing for students.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Must possess good oral and written communication skills.

  • Must possess a knowledge of skill and desire to discuss human sexuality issues in a factual, non-judgmental fashion.
  • Must be willing to cooperate with others in the development of health related programming.

  • Must be able to work independently without the need for personal and direct supervision.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Education: Graduate from an accredited LPN program.
  • Certification: Current Kansas LPN license; Current certification in CPR/AED
  • Experience: Minimum two years' experience as an LPN required, preferably in office or school setting.

SALARY:                 $27,000.00
